netsavy006
It says on Wikipedia: Some studies suggest that use of anticholinergics increases the risk of tardive dyskinesia, a long-term side effect of antipsychotics. Other studies have found no association between anticholinergic exposure and risk of developing tardive dyskinesia. What's the "true" statement? Does it increase or does it not increase the chances of developing TD? (Examples of anticholinergics would be Cogentin or Artane I believe...) LikeMinded
I'm actually surprised that anticholinergics could increase the risk of TD, given that they are often used to treat EPS (of which many consider TD is a late and severe form of). The research news seems to be equivocal over whether these drugs can increase TD risk, but it is something very interesting to consider, given the anticholinergics' history of being used to treat similar symptoms.
