Brisbaniac
I wanted to know if it were common for anyone to experience high blood pressure while taking adderall. I have recently began taking it for ADD and experienced an increase to 138 over 89 after having taken 15 mg. Not the kind of thing i wanted to suffer from especially when the adderall had such a tremendous benefit. ------------------ Dx: Mixed affective bipolar, ADD Rx: 600 mg tegretol AM, 400 mg PM 75 mg effexor daily usually 10 mg adderall AM and 5 mg PM

What was your blood pressure right before taking it, and what were the circumstances for the testing?

Before i was 122 over 87, i was tested cause i was told by my pdoc it may happen. i wanted to know if this were the case then what were the solutions to lower BP and maintain adequate treatment. Not the office visit before, *right* before taking it, as in minutes before your first dose. Otherwise you have nothing to go on, because blood pressure is *not* constant (and cannot be if you want to live long) and stressing over whether your medication will raise your blood pressure WILL raise your blood pressure. Aside from that, the standard guidelines for blood pressure range are based on the assumption of similar diets and daily stress levels among a broad population that is not taking a stimulant medication. Talk to a regular physician or a cardiologist - doctors who regularly see hypertensive patients - if you're worried, but 138/89 is still in "watch your diet, get regular exercise 3 times a week, and 8 hrs sleep a night" territory
olga
I have my own BP cuff and take my readings at home from time to time. I can get 151/92, and try it 5 minutes later and get 121/72. You might have been nervous when they took that higher reading. Mine is usually high in the doctor's office. If you didn't sit still for 5 minutes before they took the reading, it might be off. It doesn't sound high enough to be all that concerned. As null0trooper said, get some exercise, watch your salt intake, and do all the healthy things that are suggested by doctors. olga
