ArtBuf88
Well here is the story. I'm unipolar depressive and I've been switching meds like my tomorrow because everyone goes to shit. I took Effexor for 3 months and I was one big blob the entire time on it. I stopped taking that and went on to Wellbutrin Now I'm a complete mess.I was to barf. Went I move my eyes I hear a swoosh sound. I'm so tired. But when I sleep I'm out for and hour and have terrible dreams. I'm stomach is a mess and I'm agitated and want to cry all the time. I've been off Effexor for 2 weeks, I'm wondering what is to blame. Is the Effexor withdrawal the problem or is starting the Wellbutrin 300mg the problem. Can anyone give me an answer? I haven't had a good day in like 3 months. Help ~ART
Artemisia
You didn't specified exactly when you started Wellbutrin. Did you have any Effexor discontinuation problems before now? If not, my guess is that it'd be the Wellbutrin (although the weird experience when you moved your eyes does remind me of S/NRI withdrawal). The nausea and stomach issues also could be either, although if they're new, I'd be willing to blame them on Wellbutrin. I wouldn't be surprised if the sleep problems were also caused by Wellbutrin. But if you haven't yet, you really should give Wellbutrin 6-8 weeks to fully kick in. The initial side effects (if that's what they are) may go away. ArtBuf88
The Effexor was 150mg. My doctor told me to skip a dose and then take one last does. while i started the wellbutrin 150. My doc told me to take the 150 wellbutrin for 3 days and then move up to the 300mg a day. Susan~ Your so nice. I will defiantly call the doctor tomorrow and see what he can do to help me. Artemisia
It strikes me that that skipping a dose of Effexor (as opposed to, say, splitting it) only postpones the inevitable, instead of making the transition any easier... That and 150 mg or even 75 mg is a hefty dose to just go off of, especially when you're dealing with the SNRI with the most notorious discontinuation syndrome. I think it'd be a stretch to expect Wellbutrin to take care of Effexor's withdrawal effects... I had a lot of trouble getting off of 37.5 mg of Effexor... Mindful Momma
i took 225mg of effexor xr daily for about a year. i tried to come off of it cold turkey at one point but could not handle the horrid withdrawal affects, i.e. vertigo, nausea, etc. so i went back on it. i got pregnant in december and had to come off of it for the first trimester. i started to slowly lower the dosage weekly and was able to get off completely by the 10th week of pregnancy. that last jump was not easy and the lingering withdrawals were there once the dosage stopped completely. i would say i was feeling flu like for about a week and then everything was back to normal. paxil withdrawal is far worse in my experience.
