sdjeff
Hello, I've been put on 200 mg of Thorazine to try to curb my anxiety and irritability. Since starting it, I can't stop eating. I've read since that weight gain is a possible side effect. I can't afford to gain any more weight. Even 10 lbs would have ramifications on my health. Has anyone else ever had this problem with Thorazine?
AirMarshall
Yes. Obviously you missed the last 50 years in psychiatry. If you have only a 10lb margin, you need to get on a serious exercise program. What are your plans to keep weight off for the next 30 years?
MiaB
Only two meds I've ever gained weight on were zyprexa and thorazine. I'm not a fan of the med, but I'm not a doctor and if that's what it's going to take to get you stable, then I agree with AM. Get started on a solid exercise programme NOW. Also, talk more with your pdoc about this if you can. I assume that you discussed several possiblities with her/him, but is s/he fully aware that you consider yourself to be in a dangerzone as far as your weight goes? good luck M
sdjeff
Well, I don't have a specific 10 lb margin, I was just illustrating that I can't afford to gain much weight. This stuff is making me eat like crazy. It's not the "oh gee I'm bored I'm gonna eat something." kind of feeling. It's real, true honest to god I have to eat now cause I feel sick hunger. At one point I weighed 315 lbs and now I hover around 255. The difference on my joints is huge, as you can imagine. As far as exercise, I can't do anything terribly active without a major pain flare up. I've tried everything there. That's a whole different thread, though. As far as the next 39 years, I don't know. I guess I'm fucked eventually.
Guest Guest_Generica_*
Oh Sdjeff, I am most sorry, I think I may have told you it was weight neutral?! It was for me, and no extra hunger or anything. My pdoc also said it was weight neutral (I remember him having to sell it to me on some basis!). I guess 'in comparison' to AAPs it could be. That is such a bummer, I know how important it is not to stress your joints and create more pain and disability You seeing your pdoc again??
