janeeyre
A Review of Lexapro After what this drug has done for me, I think it very fitting to give something back to it: a good review. I'm hoping this review will help others who are thinking of trying Lexapro and also offer some of the good side, as the people who antidepressants work for are usually less likely to spend the time getting online to talk about it. In the last two years of my life I was suffering from pretty bad anxiety and fatigue. Perhaps some depression, too. MIs seem to run straight down my family line. In fact, my grandma, father, and brother have all taken Lexapro at some point. Our genes must all be very similar because it has worked for all of us, especially my brother and I who both have anxiety and are both on the same dose of Lexapro right now. I started with 10mg in about January but had to move up to 20mg then 30mg because it would work for a little while then level off at the lower doses. I'm not sure how long I've been on the 30mg, but I'm sure it's been at least two months. For me, being on Lexapro is like complete normalcy and an absence of all those anxious feelings. My life feels like it did before the anxiety finally. I'm also completely convinced that this would not have been possible without the Lexapro. No matter what I did in those two years, no matter how much stress I got rid of in my life, no matter how well I took care of my body and life, I could not get rid of the 24/7 fatigue and worry. It was uncontrollable and it did not come from my own thinking, as many people ignorant of MIs often think. I took Pristiq for six weeks prior to the Lexapro, but unfortunately that seemed to have little to no effect on my condition. Here is a list of the effects and side effects, good and bad, that I have felt on Lexapro. Obviously this is just my body
beetle
I'm glad Lex is working for you. It's great when you find the one that works. It didn't do it for me but hey... we're all different. Effexor worked for me. But looking back, it might have worked a little too good. I might have gone a little too up. But just wanted to add that for a drug so many hate, effexor did help me a lot for awhile. I had sexual side effect on it. Seems like I have sexaul side effects on all the serotonin reuptake drugs. Mayteana
The increase to 30mg really made all the difference for you. Great idea with the post! Hopefully your success can throw a little hope someone else's way. Wishing you continued success ~ May
Artemisia
Lexapro makes me too sleepy, but it sure does work on my depression.
water
Janeeyre, Thank you for your post. It's great that you posted when things are going well. I just started Lex last week, mostly for anxiety. (I take Wellbutrin for depression.) I split the 10 mg. in half for 5 days and have been taking the whole 10 mg. for 3 days. I feel nauseous, tired all the time and irritable. I am also having a hard time falling asleep. I am hoping these side effects will cease soon. I am very wary of this drug probably because I have read far too much on the web about it. I am also determined to stick to my 10 mg. because I am panicked about weight gain. It is unbelievably hard for me to lose weight as it is. so for now, let's hear it for WellLex! Rah rah!! hopelessromantic
Other than the delayed orgasms, I didn't have a problem with the Lex. I found out that it takes 10 days (for me) to get it out of my system and have "things" working right for me again....
blue canary
Lexapro has worked wonders for me too!! I feel alive again, able to handle the problems and projects in my life, and am interested in my hobbies again. I stopped trying to sabotage my relationship with my boyfriend, and things are great between us now. I do have problems with anorgasmia, but the benefits outweigh that. An interesting drug interaction: I took an Ultram (painkiller) for a migraine and woke up in the middle of the night feeling WAY too happy, what I imagine feeling manic might be like. Luckily I was able to tell myself "it's only the drugs interacting" so I didn't panic and felt much more normal in the morning.
janeeyre
Thank you May! =] Water, that's interesting. I've heard the opposite: that it usually makes people tired. I surprisingly didn't have any startup side effects, though I did switch straight over from Pristiq. Perhaps I should add that to the list. Hopefully you are sticking to whatever your doctor said, though, since those usually go away! I know the annoying ones I had on Pristiq did. I've never heard of Ultram. Good warning, though. Glad it's working for others!
janeeyre
I forgot, too, that Lexapro kicks in faaaaast, which is good. On the opposite end, though - when it stops, it stops fast.
Becca79
Glad to see this thread!!!! I started about 2 months ago and WOW what a difference!!! I too tried Pristiq and had HORRIBLE side effects. Like I was on illegal drugs of some sort Same with zoloft and paxil. So I was really scared at trying another BUT had major irriatable/stress issues that were only getting worse with time. And when I started yelling too much at my kiddos I knew I had no choice but to try, try again. THANK GOD I did!!! Lexapro had few side effects such as sleepiness and dry mouth, stomach issues @ first but very mild. I take mine at night per my doc as it helps sleep. I am so different in the morning, I dont dread waking up to the "Momma, momma, momma" 's. I am so much more laid back and relaxed. Now I have gained about 7 pounds BUT I do this often and just found out I am hypothyroid as well, so hopefully synthroid will help...I dont now. Either way its worth it in everyway. I in no way feel "drugged" I only feel normal again, still able to feel emotion, just not OVER emotional Good luck to all and I hope everyone finds there "cure" (10 mgs of Lexapro, started 5mgs for a weeks then went to 10) ~becca
