AirMarshall
Never say never, but long term I think most docs would be more inclined to increase or add an antidepressant or mood stabilizer; something that would actually help your brain. When do you run out? You might start planning to ration your pills till a day or two after your pdoc comes back. Its better than ending up cold turkey and hiding in bed for days waiting for him to return. Oh, remember you can't split the Xanax XR pills since they are time release. You many find that you are able to do better than you expected on lower doses. Good luck, a.m.
gizmo
Don't quote me or anything, but I don't think you're doctor will prescribe you two benzo's to take at the same time on the same day. Too much GABA action going on. And yes, benzodiazepines are considered a schedule IV controlled substance, which is not as high as the schedule II ADHD medication my son takes, but it generally means more federal scrutiny and an ID at the pharmacy to pick up. Your typing really makes me wonder how much of the meds you are taking. I've tried typing while taking too many xanax, and I kept reversing letters like teh instead of the. If you are (and I'm only asking, not accusing) I urge you to put an end to it immediately. I've been down that path before. It starts small, then you take more and more just to control how you feel inside. Then, if you're like me, you have a big episode that won't quit and you take so much you wind up in the ER, then the phospital. This happened to me New Year's Eve 2007. You'll notice xanax in my sig. That's because, as a direct result of the incident above, my pills are locked away, and I get a one day dose every night. I couldn't take more than necessary even if I wanted to. The Emperor
okay, just for another outlook on this, I was reading this post too and noticed the letters switched around like that and thought about how that happens to me all the time because I type so fast, I am always swtching letters around. Sometimes they RX a maitenence benzo and a prn one as well, don't they? but it seems like xanax xr(with it's long half life) wouldn't be RX'd with another benzo with the same kind of half-life, I don't know much about this crap, but something makes me doubt this combination being approved by a dr. somewhere. Just my two cents on this topic. For the record, I am entirely new to the treatment/meds side of MI, so don't take much I say seriously, unless I happen to be right. chimpmaster
Its unlikely that a dr would prescribe two long acting benzos at once. Its also unlikely that you would need two at once. I dont know a lot about xanax xr but I do know that it is a substitute drug for valium and klonopin. Sometimes a dr will prescribe valium, klonopin or xanax xr with xanax or atvian to be taken PRN. This is only in very severe cases however.
