I hate being human!

I can't stand being human. It's not that I want to be an animal (because animals are dumb), I just can't stand humans' society. It's always forcing us to belittle ourselves and kiss the asses of stupid fat guys. Humans in general are naive and weak, and destroy the environment by adapting their surroundings to themselves instead of adapting to their surroundings. I would like to be something superior, such as an elf, or an alien, or a robot/freaky cyborg thing. No offense to any humans who happen to be reading this, but I just can't stand being one of this pathetic species. Please, somebody, please agree with me.

Personally I think humans are way more complex varied and interesting than imaginary beings, with bonobo chimps coming in second (coming in seconds?). And much more interesting than many species, like beetles or amoebas (ok, I know some people find these really interesting, but I like primates better).

But there are a variety of inbred groups on the internet and at science fiction conventions that play at and/or believe they are imaginary beings. They tend to be really heavy into navel gazing (as opposed to, say, good works). I don't think embracing insanity or encouraging delusions like that is healthy, but there are people who do agree with you.

I do have to ask, though: Naive and weak compared to what? Chimps? Dolphins? Fish?

We're certainly not the only species that destroys environments we didn't evolve in (like kudzu, for example, or the fruitflies that were a bad problem in California a while ago). When I was living in Michigan they had to cut down all the ash trees because of the Emerald Ash Borer. I mean, that's a more general problem of rapid introduction to new ecosystems.

I like being human. If you think that the rest of the human race is unimaginative and sheep-like then break away from the flock and be different. No one is forcing you to kiss anyone's ass.

As someone, somewhere said, "Why be normal? It's so boring."

Hey, conventions are fun! Of course, I go to anime conventions, so I don't think they count. ;) I don't dress up though... I just like looking at the costumes and taking pictures. And I'm so not inbred. :)

Yeah, sometimes the species can really get you down. For me it's our societal (yes, me too) lack of foresight, lack of care for Life.

The black hole theory of extinction: it all goes into the black hole in the middle of people's faces.

Sorry, disagree with you.

Keeping in mind... 1. you aren't feeling well right now. 2. We come from a tiny misfit section of society, so our perception and interaction is warped.

Example 2.

The first snowflakes of winter are falling. You are given a hillside that is partially muddy and bare. Adapt yourself to it, to survive the winter. How would you do this without altering the 'environment'?

;) a.m.

p.s. Even the tiny hummingbird uses the environment to build a nest....

This actually made me feel better than any other comment, somehow. I don't always feel this way, only when I'm really upset, so perhaps you're right. I also liked the deadly virus idea, but replace the word "deadly" with the word "zombie".
