Mindful Momma
so my inpatient pdoc gave me 5mg of abilify to help with the bipolar as a mood stabilizer......keep in mind that i'm preggo so dosing is important....but i'm just wondering what everyone's (if anyone) has had experience with such a low dose helping with their bipolar, specifically depressive episodes. i took it in the past at 15mg with amazing results but only for around 9 months, then we started moving things around. so what has been your experience? i meet with the new(old i'lve see him before) pdoc next week (hopefully pending payment opportunities) to discuss this. andrea3821
I took Pristiq for one week and then stopped it after it made me manic. I went a few days with just Ativan to help bring me down and then started Abilify 2mg. I went up to 4mg for a week after that. It gave me akathisia and made my anxiety go through the roof. I was pretty much hypomanic and just plain irritable. My pdoc had wanted to titrate me to 10mg (my next dose was supposed to be 10mg, actually) but he wanted me to discontinue b/c of these symptoms. I just didn't tolerate it and it wasn't a good drug for me. I have heard that Abilify is either a great drug or a horrible drug, so hopefully it'll work for you and you won't have any problems with it. Kablume
I take 5mg and have for about 2 yrs now with great results. Took as an add on to my ADs. I haven't had any side effects at this range. I can up 5 mg as needed.
chimpmaster
Abilify didnt work well for me. I personally prefer zyprexa. A lot of people find it to be very effective - I wish you all the best with it..
SunshineOutside
Abilify has worked very well for me in regards to Bipolar depession and anxiety. I started at 10mg, moved to `15mg, felt numb, went down to 7.5 mg, still felt a little numb and went to 5mg. Then I started having some depression and have stabilized at 7.5 mg. A great drug for me. Thomas
I've been on 10 mg. for a bit over a year and it seems to work well as a part of the cocktail that is keeping me stable. Tommy
Hibachi Ho
I've been taking 2.5mg a day for about a month now and I think it's made me worse. Nothing in the manic/depressed sense, just a general lack of well-being. I'm just realizing the connection this afternoon; I take it in the mornings since it doesn't seem to affect how tired/tweaky I can be at any given time, but my inclination to want to hurt myself has been peaking in the afternoon to evenings. I'm not one for injuring myself, either, but somehow I only find relief in bashing a body part against a hard surface. Since I'm on such a low dose I'm just going to stop taking it. I tried it at night as well, and there was no change in my irritability levels whatsoever. In fact, it's gotten worse. I will inform my Pdoc but yeah. I'm not down with OPP, and by OPP I mean Abilify.
