snowstormburning
This is really more funny than it is bothersome, but I'm wondering if it's normal. I've slept two nights on Lamictal (put me right to sleep, by the way! That's a first!), and both those nights I had incredibly vivid, almost real dreams, one of which involved me being the fairy queen of the lily pond and "accidentally" marrying three different men, including Prince Caspian from the Narnia books, the other of which involved my much younger self getting lost in Disney World. The first was more humorous than anything else, but the second was incredibly frightening and I woke up in a cold sweat. Anyone else experience this? I'm not exactly complaining; I can tolerate the occasional nightmare (before my meds I'd have some pretty horrific ones if I ever did sleep), and compared to what I went through on Celexa, this is certainly a walk in the park so far! Could this be a result of being on two sedating drugs at once? I'm still tapering off the Remeron. Hmm...
Karin
Hi! Been on Lamictal a year - no never had such dreams. Could it be in combo with something else that is causing it?
nalgas
I personally didn't have that happen, but a bunch of other people have mentioned it happening to them specifically from Lamictal. I suspect there have probably been a few threads about it, but I don't remember any recently, so you might have to dig several pages back or hope the search function is in a good mood. Heh. AirMarshall
Lots of our crazymeds can cause vivid dreams. don't let them upset you. as with most side effects it may decrease with time. a.m.
papertrees
I've had that with Lamictal. Just last night, in fact. It was scary. I thought I was waking up then it was just a dream that I was waking up. This happened 10 times or so last night. It was crazy. Then when I finally was awake, I ran to my cousin's room and slept there instead. It was too scary to go through it alone. rowen
Sounds like my regular dreams, heh. Did you just start Lamictal? I've noticed that when I first start any med I have extra dream weirdness. It seems like I go back to the usual dream weirdness after a few weeks. Some people also have anxiety when titrating Lamictal. Would you say that you feel more anxious? If so, that could be contributing to the funky dreams.
snowstormburning
Yes, I just started it. Glad to hear it's a normal side effect; usually I get all the abnormal ones . Again, it's not unbearable in my case, and hopefully it will get better once I adjust to the medication and/or go off the Remeron. Jene, I don't exactly feel anxious, but my IBS is flaring up as of late, and both my pdoc and tdoc think that I have a repressed anxiety disorder, causing me to become sick more easily, which, for all my skepticism, I must admit makes some sense, as I do tend to have flare ups when I'm away from home or my personal life is particularly chaotic. So maybe I am more anxious, and it's manifesting itself not only in the IBS, but also in the dreams? Hmm. I sure seem to be saying "hmm" a lot lately, haha. Littlewing
Yeah...crazy, crazy dreams! I used to have pretty weird ones at the best of times, but these are EVEN weirder and so real! It's only really annoying in the sense that it sometimes wakes me up...and then I'm REALLY confused! To be fair though, that's a fairly normal state for me! crtclms
Were any of you vivid dreamers to start with? You are making me a little nervous, I am starting Lamictal tonight. I already am a vivid dreamer, and a lucid dreamer, because of my intractable migraines. I am taking the Lamictal for a mixed episode, but we are hoping that it might help with my head too. And I have those nightmares where I keep waking up, and waking up, and failing. I start doing things in the dreams to try to wake myself up, like kill myself, because of the myth that you can't dream about your own death. I know, insane, right? They are horrific. Now I am afraid to take it. I'll be a good girl though. I am desperate.
Karin
Hi! My doctor put me on Zolpidem at the same time as when I started Lamictal, so I can not recall dreams as such. I do recall, however, being all over the place for the first two or three days, then I'd stabilise a bit. Then a week or two later, all over the place, titrate up again, until eventually, at 200 mg, I evened out. To me, the process was not a picnic, but the end result is! I am now evened out on Lamictal 100 mg (2x a day) Topomax 50 mg (evenings) Wellbutrin 300 xl (mornings) I have Zolpidems which I can drink if I want, but rarely do. I have stopped especially red wine, and would rather have whiskey, or an apple cider. I love red wine, live in one of the red wine drinking countries of the world, but alas, it just does not go well with our meds. Try this: Don't drink any red wine for a couple of weeks, then take a glass full. Then decide for yourself.
