ghost_train
What's the highest you've gone on amphetamines or methylphenidate, or its derivatives? If you feel comfortable answering, roughly how fast is your metabolism compared to mine? (Age, height/weight, activity level.) How did your doctor make the decision to go on such a high dose? What alternatives did you go through when one medication or preparation pooped out on you? I'm minimally responding to 80 mg of Adderall. (Whether IR or XR.) Actually, there might be a small difference even on 40 mg - lately, I drive better - but I don't feel it or notice it in my schoolwork, living area maintenance. (So I could chalk the driving up to behavior, chemistry, or both.) fwiw, I'm a female in my mid-twenties, 5'4", 150 - 155 lbs, fairly naturally muscular, moderate activity level, occasionally smoke a cigarette with friends. And my Dx/Rx are in my signature. Also...I have never really felt like I've had too much Adderall, aside from excess sweating and a moderately elevated pulse. Wellbutrin did trigger OCD in me after a few months, just after pulling out of a major depressive episode. Adderall has only made me feel awesome. I have never abused drugs, aside from slight self-medication with alcohol or cigarettes.

Not many people are going to give that much of a description of themselves on an open-access mental illness forum - that sort of thing belongs on MySpace. My current Adderall dosage is 15 mg/day. "Metabolism" isn't as much of a factor for amphetamine, as up to 70% is excreted in the urine, unchanged. How did your doctor make the decision to go on such a high dose? I admitted that I'm not staying on-task at work as much as I need to I don't think he wanted to stay at 10mg/day, but getting to my current antidepressant med hasn't been as easy as it could have been, and there is a family history of heart disease. That's two very good reasons to stay put.
AnneMarie
30 mg Adderall XR I didn't feel anything at all until 15mg and that was a very minor improvement. At 20mg, I had some improvement but was still scattered. So far, 30mg is okay, but I want to split dose it so that more of the day is covered. Not sure if that'll be 15-15 or 20-20. Basically, efficacy is the driver. I tried Ritalin first. Immediate release started to destabilize me. Concerta made me feel feintly stoned and mostly I just want to sleep. Alpam
I take Dexamphetamine in a single morning dose of 60mg. I have been on the Dex for a while now, and just found that it was getting less and less effective. This is the second time I have been on it, I started with taking it three times a day (20mg, 15mg, 10mg), then tried 25mg twice a day found that to be more effective, moved to 30mg twice a day but then after a while it wasn't cutting it, so I decided to try a single dose in the morning and have found this to be far better for me than any other combo, told my pdoc and he said to stick with it. At this single dose I don't have any negative side effects, I find I become alert and energised by the time I get to work (In the past it felt like I didn't 'wake up' till about 3pm) and it has improved my mood. Hopefully this will last as I have found through experimentation that I can't see any greater benefit from taking a larger dose. For what it's worth I am a 22yo male 87kg and have found that for me to respond to any medication I have to take a higher dose then the average person.
