dancesintherain
hi there, I've been dealing w/ some excessive sleepiness for a few weeks, and I don't know what the culprit is. Thyroid's fine, iron's fine, etc. It makes me wonder if it's some side effect that took a while to surface. Most of my medication's already split half in hte morning and half at night...but the lamictal isn't yet. Anyone done that w/ lamictal? Or experienced sleepiness from it? I'm thinking of checking w/ pdoc to see if I can make it 100 mg and 100 mg (or 200 mg at night). thanks!
quiet storm
Lots of people do split dosing. Might be worth a shot.
nalgas
Plenty of people do split it. It's also one of those odd meds that makes some people sleepy and others have trouble sleeping, so different people do better with it all in the morning, all at night, or split different ways at different times. Sometimes you just have to try and see what works for you.
unipolarbear
Before I voluntarily stopped my lamictal (not recommended), I was taking 150 in the morning and 100 at night. I'm up to 200 now and that's in the morning. I venture to say that I will prollly end up with 200 am and 100 pm. Splitting it up is definitely doable and may even curtail the possible rash one might get (although I'm not sure exactly b/c I'm not a doctor)
thunderstorm
My Pdoc would prefer me to split my dose, but I cant take it at night as it makes my insomnia worse. Splitting is fine, but of course, get the go-ahead from your Pdoc first

Karin
Hihi, My Lamictal was prescribed split, 100 mg in the morning and 100 mg at night, so I have always taken it split!
scatty
I take 100 mg. three times a day. My pdoc told me that his patients respond better to a split dose, especially with the generic (which I am on.)
quiet storm
I've been fooling around with the idea of trying split dosing myself or trying to take it at night instead of the morning. I've always been a little more "headachy" since I started lamictal, but it was always more of a twinge than a full headache. But here lately I've been getting some pretty bad headaches pretty regularly. Not migraines, but these insane tension like headaches in the back of my head and neck. Thankfully they only last a couple hours with a little help from mr motrin but during those two hours I'm pretty much useless as tits on a bull because I dont want to move. I take 200mg in the morning and I also have these periods where I'm just tired as hell during the day. I'm wondering if splitting it up with 100 in the morning and 100 at night might ease this since I wont be slamming it all at once. Or maybe just taking it at night so maybe I can sleep thru this bullshit.
Littlewing
When I went up to 200mg, my Pdoc told me to split the dose rather than take it all in one hit to avoid any irritating side effects (though I still had some). And as an aside, thanks so much for posting in this thread...cos by reading it, I realised I'd forgotten to take my meds!
Karin
I would really suggest just phone your doctor and ask - I of course don't know what else you take and what the effect would be - but 100 mg twice a day works very well for me! I never have the sleepy side effects.
