Lexapro/Cipralex/Escitalopram

Recommended Posts

Okay so I was put on Lexapro last Friday so it's a week today since I've started. I also started it with abilify and at first I thought it was a abilify that made me tired. I decided to experiment and take one medication first I then found out that it was Lexapro that was making me so tired.

Anyone onto my question. Has anyone taking/is taking Lexapro and gotten over the tiredness? Another thing is I can't sleep at night even though my eyes are literally closing during the day! Or I have really, really broken sleep. Wake up every hour and can't sleep again... I have to take twice my dose from now on and I just hope I don't wake up tired....So can anyone share any experiences or advice?

Thank you.

When are you taking your Cipralex? If you're taking it in the daytime, you might want to move it to nighttime and see if that helps. If you're taking it at nighttime, try moving it to daytime.

I was on Celexa, and it made me YAWN a lot, but I wasn't sleepy, so that's a neurological thing rather than a sleepiness one.

But the general party line on side effects is that they tend to get better after about a month. That has been my experience with almost all the meds I've been on, including Celexa, which is closely related to Cipralex.

Celexa didn't do anything to me, good or bad, but Lexapro does make me sleepy. Initial side effects may go away in the first couple of weeks. Otherwise, would adding bupropion/Budeprion/Wellbutrin/Zyban/whatever be an option for you in order to combat the sleepiness?

@tyrp I have to take it twice a day as of today so that's once in the morning and once at night....The night won't be so bad obviously but the morning dose really really kicks my arse. I mean I've literally had my eyes close on my the last few days.

@Artemisia I'm not sure if my doctor would give me something he is very, very tight when it comes to giving perscriptions....I do hope the side effects go away before I see him next.

I honestly have no idea, my doctor doesn't speak to me about my perscriptions really he just writes them and tells me when to take them. I would prefer it the opposite way around....perhaps I'll speak to him about it.

Yeah, you should be able to get away with taking it once a day. I mean, there's no harm in taking it twice, but drowsiness is one of those things where dosing time can actually help a lot. I know it's that way with Seroquel, which I take FOR the drowsiness effect ;) Good idea to ask your pdoc about it.

I'm a bit confused now, I decided to re-read his note to see if I should take it twice a day and it says " Can be increased to twice a day thereafter 7days" but on the prescription box it says twice a day so... I'm quite confuzzled. Any ideas?

Well, you can't really get addicted to Wellbutrin the way you can to many of the stimulants as well as benzos, so maybe your doctor won't be too "stingy." Then again, I don't know where you live, but in some countries, you can only get Wellbutrin/Zyban for smoking cessation.

Umm, it sounds like he wanted you on 10 mg for a week, then on 20 mg. It does sound like it's written for you to take 10 mg twice a day.

There could be a reason for that - I'm obviously not as familiar with the drug and with you as your pdoc is - but it might be worth calling your pdoc and asking about taking it all at once at night, since the drowsiness is causing such an issue for you.
