Raquin
I'm going to be visiting my dad for a couple of days starting on the 30th. Whenever I visit him, I always have a martini at night, around 8, with him and my stepmother. It's a ritual I really enjoy. Does anyone have any experience with Tegretol and alcohol? Thanks! Silver
I found that the motor effects of alcohol and Tegretol together were really pronounced. As in "wow, this couch is a lot loader than I thought it wash. Lower that I thought is wast. Lower... This couch is really low. So I'll just sit here." So I found that a half-martini became a martini. Very economical, really. Of course, my motor skills are pretty bad to start with.
Penny Century
be really fucking careful. even you need to be careful with tegretol and drinking. try 1/2 of it and let it sit for a while. it's not like a benzo, it makes it hit hard and sloppy. AirMarshall
Different med, same class...One drink on Lamictal and I would be looped. Walking like a sailor...heh, wait I am an old sailor. And then some other odd time I would drink a bottle of wine with the effect of Kool Aid. Completely unpredictable. Tell your parents ahead of time to keep an eye on you and sip that martini slowly. Look at it as savoring it. a.m.
blackbird
Since starting Tegretol I have had 2 drinks one afternoon - white wine coolers. I didn't notice any effects at the time but the next day I woke up I was so seriously depressed I had violent suicidal images like throwing myself under a train and blasting my brains out with a gun running through my head. Mind you I am on Prozac and Topamax and a lot of other stuff too, but Tegretol is my mood stabiliser. Watch out if you are prone to depression! blackbird x
Raquin
Thank you everyone for the advice!!! I'm definitely going to follow it. I do get depressed, so that worries me. I'll have to be extra careful. Again, thank you!!!!
Guest pontus
hi! I have tpo tell you, tegretol does NOT work as a benzo, and you have nothing at all to worry about. I got seizures/epilepsia from drinking 7-8 days in a row on festivals, then the doctor gave me this on a recipie. I'm supposed to take it everyday but i dont, frankly i dont need it. i only use it when i know im going to drink alot for a couple of days to avoid seizures(im bnot going to let some seizures stop me from partying on festivals . the only thing that may happen is that you can be a little bit tired, but as i understand, you already use it and have it on recepie, and if so, youre body is already used to it and this sideeffect is gone, even if you drink a martini or five. nothing at all to worry about, even if youll get drunk as hell, nothing will happen. sorry my spelling, im from sweden
nalgas
sorry my spelling, im from sweden I hope you don't try to blame your complete and total lack of understanding of how the medication works on being from Sweden, too. Last time I checked, they don't have "being willfully ignorant and giving dangerously bad advice as a second language" classes there that you could've done poorly in... Guest tegretol
I have to agree with Sweden there. Ive been given tegretol because I had one seizure. Apparently you are not suppose to drink because it makes you tired and you could just fall asleep at any moment haha yeah right. I drink all the time on it and there has never been a point where I felt like I was going to pass out. The only thing I really worry about is the damage it could do to your liver but thats for prolonged use of the drug and drinking all the time. Anyway the point is go get rowdy some nights dont let the drug control your life you wanna drink do it!
kdbee
Walking like a sailor...heh, wait I am an old sailor. made me smile! That aside! Don't be irresponsible with your meds. Though one person had five martinis and was ok...well...I wouldn't trust that at all as a general rule of thumb. I'd plain 'ol disregard it. I agree with whomever said something like : have half a glass of wine...wait awhile...see how you feel.. Question, to everyone on Tegretol, do you have mixed episodes or rapid rapid rapid rapid ra.... cycling? I'm thinking of suggesting it to my pdoc tomorrow.
