the man in a box
My friend gave me a link here a while back and only now have I decided to make an account. I don't know what I have. I suspect strongly my mood swings are due to bipolar disorder, but who knows for sure. I don't want visit my doctor again for a diagnosis. He said I had a minor depressive illness. Maybe I should have told him about all that suicidal ideation and compulsive stealing. I dunno. I was depressed at the time. It's the height of summer and I'm bored out of my mind. I need help with that.
Artemisia
You really should see your doctor again and probably ask for a referral to a psychiatrist. And don't omit the other symptoms. They are pretty important. Good luck and welcome to the Boards! Edit: How are you feeling now, other than bored?
Kyzr
Hi! Welcome. It's very important to have a doctor who specializes in mental illness (see: psychiatrist aka pdoc). I've had some pretty shady experiences with primary care physicians who were very good doctors, but really did me no favors in the MI department. For many of us, putting a label on our MI can be very difficult and it can take a long time to get diagnosed accurately, even with pdocs. Artemisia is so right: it's important not to omit any symptoms or feelings you're having. It could make all the difference in diagnosing and finding effective treatment. Good luck. I'm sorry you're so bored. Hang out here for a while - lots of good reading!
olga
Welcome, boxy man! Please read the rules when you have time, and it sounds like you have LOTS of time these days. I agree with the other posters, that you need to see a competent psychiatrist and/or therapist to receive appropriate treatment. It may be that therapy would help you with your symptoms. Please feel free to PM a mod if you need help with something. We're glad to have you with us. olga
beetle
Hi. Welcome. I'm bored too. Like others have said, see a pdoc. Tell them everything. Try to start feeling better.
tryp
Welcome to CrazyBoards Glad to have you on-board. I second everyone else's suggestion about seeing your doctor again/trying to get a psychiatrist referral. Doing that stuff is annoying and sucky, but it will probably help you feel better in the long term. Looking forward to seeing you around.
Mayteana
Welcome to CB! I don't know what I have. I suspect strongly my mood swings are due to bipolar disorder, but who knows for sure. You know - seeing a doctor and being honest about how you're feeling could lead to you knowing for sure. If you're bored anyway, at least it'll keep you busy for a bit. Just a thought See you on the boards! ~ May

I'm starting to think he's just a lousy doctor. Maybe it's because I still function quite well. I don't know. Anyone know of another way of getting referred to a psychiatrist without going through my GP? I'm a UK resident, if that helps.
Holle
i don't know how you get to see a pdoc without going through your GP in the UK, but i still think you should see one. i worry about you, sugarplum. i want to see you healthy. and if you are really against meds, then you definitely need to see a therapist/counsellor. i am sure they can give you techniques to get through the boredom without going out of your head. <

I hope one of them will wander by with a suggestion for you. You could also go to the forum called "The Health Care System Sucks" or whatever it is and start a topic asking how you get to see a pdoc in the UK if your GP won't refer you. That might get you quicker results. olga
