utahlaura
My Pdoc has me on neurontin for anxiety..1800 per day. It didn't seem to be working so she decided to take me off of it nad I discovered that it had been working as an antidepressant for me because I started to get depressed right off the bat. So I went back on it and it helped with the depression again but not the anxiety. I had been on 3 mg of klonapin for a long time and it was working great, but this new Pdoc was one of the ones that believes in getting you off all yur meds and using counciling instead. So she deceased my klonapin to 2 mg a day. I went nuts with anxiety with only 2mg and kept begging her to help me. That I knew myself and had been on 3mg of klonapin for 5 years and it was still working amazingly enough and still needed it in the worse way. But no go. She refused. So I decided to go to a different Pdoc for a second opinion. He agreed that if the 3mg of klonapin had worked for me for so long that I should continue with 3mg per day as I always had. Duh, right. Trouble was that he increased my neurontin from 1800mg to 2700mg a day. Wow, that's a lot. I felt wierd for about a week then started to feel very depressed..like it was too much of a downer. So I went back to taking what I was before on my own...1800mg a day and am doing much better. What want to know is does anyone know anything about neunontin for anxiety or for anything else. Anyone have any experience with this stuff?
bruxist
I was just about to post a nuerontin (gabapentin) question myself. I have been on 900mg for about 1 1/2 years for anxiety and depression. They added it because I wasn't responding well enough to my SSRI and i guess it can be used off-label as a mood stabilizer in conjuction with SSRIs. The drug is approved for nerve pain and seizures but i have read it is prescribed off-label 90 percent of the time. Pfizer was actually fined or sued for marketing the drug to doctors for use with depression/anxiety. Finally, they dont really know how it works, like they dont know its mechanism. This all kinda freaked me out so I decided to go off of it since I was on a "low dose," and i didnt know what it was doing for me. After cutting down to 400 mg though I started to have really bad withdrawl symptoms like feelings of unreality, depressive mood swings and suicidal ideation. Im now up to 500mg and im waiting to see my Pdoc this week to see what to do. Has anyone else had withdrawl symptoms coming off of nuerontin? My Pdoc hac me increase to 2700mg if you can believe that and it was too mch and started to aker me feel depressed. I went back down to 1800 a day and had depression all the while. I checked it on the net and found out that coming off neurontin does this ..so bummer. At least I'm through it now mostly nad feel much better after about two weks of feeling depressed. Anelize
I've been taking Neurontin for anxiety for awhile now. I'm on 1200mg, taken at 4pm, since my anxiety is the most severe in the early evening. I don't know much about it, other than it works. I tried to go off it, and the anxiety came back, so I'll stick with what works. I don't want to take benzos, so I'm happy with it.
