Swamp56
I didn't know where to put this, so I'm just gonna drop this thread in here . Anyway, all of the urls seems to have "target="blank" at the end. Normally, in HTML this would make sure that the page opened in a different window or tab, but it seems to be attached at the end of the URL, distorting the link D: . Something seems to be interfering in what I'm guessing is a preg_replace() function for translating BB Codes within one of the files for the forum software. Choosing_the_blue_pills
I don't really understand any of this, but when I made a link, [link=http://www.google.com"'>http://www.google.com" target="_blank]Google[/link] ,it becomes [link=http://www.google.com"'>http://www.google.com" target="_blank]google[/link] and it opens in a new window. Is it supposed to be some other way? Edit: Ok, so I noticed that when I instead of adding a link with the BB code (?) url command write out the HTML code I get as a result when clicking reply, I get a different result as you can see. But I suppose one should use the BB code, not html. Edit2: When I made edit number 1 the first link stopped working also, it was opening google in another window before. Apparently it works the first time for the google link. Also read tryps post now, so I understand there really is a problem.
tryp
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I've had the same problem with the "target" getting tacked on to the end. It seems to happen mainly with complicated links that have numbers/letters and crap at the end.
withing
If someone edits their post, the link will break (add target=blank). So every time people edit their post, they should be aware, and fix the links before submitting the edited posts. That could be part of the problem. tryp
Google Ed. to check Ed.2 Yup, that's it. Mystery solved. Thanks Patheral - I've been wondering about that for a while.
withing
Yeah, I didn't know until I started the "stumble upon" thread and kept editing my posts... *none* of my links worked and I didn't know why!!! Someone explained it to me, and I felt like a dufus. hehehe. learn something new every day.
nalgas
Yup. It happens specifically when you edit or quote a post. Basically anything that makes the board re-parse all that crap (i.e. anything that brings up a text field pre-populated with...text) makes it automagically break all links unless you manually remove the junk it tags onto the end. It also does fun (read: stupid) things converting escaped characters, too (or at least it used to, but I haven't checked in a while). Presumably that's getting fixed at some point, like in the next version of the software.
Swamp56
Huh, someone should report that to IPB - I mean, it's an expensive piece of software to run :/ .
crazygirl
I'm really stupid about these things, so please, bear with me... I noticed this thread and figured this was the place to put this question. My link in my sig to my website doesn't work (i.e. it's not clickable). I used the BB code to link it. Should i have used html code instead (will that fix it?) I see a lot of posters with the same problem, yet I see others with working links in their sigs.... so... any advice? Thanks in advance, Nicole
