eldorado
I'm tend to be on the manic/psychotic side of the spectrum, but I do still get depressed. About five years ago, my pdoc suggested that I stop taking ADs unless I went into major depression for over a month. Ever since I've been more stable (less ups & downs) and I havent shot from depression to mania. I'm not just talking about SSRIs. It turns out that I'm just really sensative to anything that would give me a neurotransmitter boost. Anybody else have this experience?
dancesintherain
There's actually a thread on here that you might want to check out - on whether people w/ bipolar are able to be on ADs or not. It seems like there are some pretty wide-ranging responses. I've been able to stay on, but a lot of people went hypomanic, manic, or cycled more rapidly. One option to always keep in mind is that some of the bp medications are known for having more of an anti-depressant like quality (e.g. lamictal)...so that might be a place of comfort if needed.
