unipolarbear
SO I switched from Zyprexa (which made me prediabetic and gave me 80 extra pounds over the years. But now that I've been off the zyprexa and have started the geodon, my weight and sugars haven't stabilized. So maybe I'm just outta shape and it is my problem, not Zyprexa' problems. That said, I have been symptomatic still. I spent so much money in June it is ridiculous. And I'm paying for it this month -- it's very stressful. I went shopping and to expensive restaurants and took cabs everywhere. I have grandiose thoughts about the lottery and other things. (I'll buy like 20-30 numbers each time it comes up [twice a week]). The geodon is making me less psychotic, but I'm still pretty hypo (which is my problem 99% of the time). (Hell, my mom even said "You sound more peppy," after I stopped the Zyprexa and started the Geodon. But the ZYprexa made me calm and sedated, and that's what I really need. SO I said all that rambling to say this: what if I add 2.5mg zyprexa to Geodon. I mean, two atypicals at once. Would my sugar and weight go through the roof? Anyone else do this? I have written down a whole list of things I want to alk about at out meeting this week and this is just one of them. Thanks for letting me vent in this long post -- A
Choosing_the_blue_pills
I was going to take two atypicals, but stopped after just a few weeks. Taking only one is the first option, but sometimes one might need two. In my case I could not tolerate a high dose of Geodon and I did not want to take a higher dose of Seroquel. That's why I got two. But now I upped my Seroquel. I don't have anything really good to say, but I guess that since you can't tolerate a high dose of Zyprexa it could be an idea to take two medications. What I'm wondering is if those effects come already at low doses of Zyprexa, if they depend on the dose. Don't know anything about that, or how Zyprexa and Geodon would react together. Hopefully someone else will come a long with more knowledge.
gizmo
I took two atypicals - zyprexa and geodon - for several months. I had no real increase of side effects - I just had the same "can't stay up to save my life" side effect that the geodon caused me, whether I took it alone or with the zyprexa. I've had no weight issues while on the Z, and I no longer take the Geodon. I took them both for about 3 months. I can't tell you about the metabolic aspects of what will happen to you if you return to the Z, if your body became prediabetic on it. Some people go back to normal when they get off, some don't. Also, it really depends on what your qualification of prediabetic is. Is your fasting blood sugar 170 or such, or are you mainly talking about the weight gain? It just all depends. Your doctor will really be the one to talk to you about that. I can tell you that your doctor will likely want to monitor your sugar levels if you want to get back on the Z, so you may need a glucose monitor and some test strips. jarn
Talk to your doc about going back on the Z. I'm on Geodon and Seroquel at the moment, with an eye to reducing/going off my Seroquel (we'll see) and other than an incredible sedation mid-day which is making work difficult, no real issues. I suspect I will stay on both, but Seroquel at a low dose. My psychopharmacologist told me it is common. I agree it's a good idea to monitor your Z-related symptoms, but maybe 2 will be the trick you need for your symptoms brain-wise. As a runner, there are lots of ways you can start increasing your exercise, which will help w/weight and things like blood sugar. I'm always happy to help anyone interested in starting (it's easy to start slow, but still great for you)
mika
I am on Risperdal and Geodon. I LOVE Risp but it has too much weight gain. so we decided to lower the dose and add the Geodon. She wants me at 80mg of Geodon. I am not liking it right now because it makes me SO sedated during the day. I keep quitting it for a day if i need to be awake for something, We'll see how i goes. But risperdal is my dream drug. I take it before bed and as a prn. Works wonders for me.
