susanlynn
Remembering neurologist talking "this one's for life." Can I get off of it? I sure do want to, if only not for the pain.
Raquin
May I ask why you want to get off of it? I just started it a month ago and I don't know how I feel about it, so I'm curious. Unfortunately I can't actually help with your question =(
susanlynn
Alright, you've just started, and I've been on it over 20 years. I'm not epileptic, + I don't know if you are. It seems to impair my judgement, and so many other aspects of my life. It's nice not to feel pain, or be less bothered by it, though it is hard to validate this judgement. I've only been frustrated, trying to find others who've gotten off tegretol and not gone on to a substitute medication(s). Golly, good luck. susanlynn
Sorry the topic label is so misleading, but here's to hoping someone has something to say regarding crash landings.
Raquin
I am epileptic. I've noticed that I feel incredibly stupid on it. Like my brain has been fried, sort of like how I felt when I was on thorazine. I don't know if this the tegretol? Though I think it is. I wish you the best!!!!
susanlynn
Possibly its real hard to take tegretol without the "alice in wonderland" syndrome. Though I can only give my own take on the medication- just you feel okay, even though "you" have a hard time relating to others. "Stupidity" I guess can be broken down to mean a lack of sequential memory, among other definitions. Losing track of things, having to sleep so much, and making really bad, painful choices; a few others. So you're epileptic, and I bet doing the give and take is very difficult. Best wishes. Raquin
I've been so freaking tired. I wasn't at first, so I thought maybe I was just sick. Now I think it's the tegretol catching up with me. I so tired to the point of no matter how many hours of sleep I get at night, or how many naps I take, I'm still exhausted. Exhausted to the point where I sometimes see those white flashes of light out of the corners of my eyes. Yet I still have insomnia. What the hell is that??? I'm asking my neuro if i can take a lower dose. So far it's the only anti-seizure med I've taken that's worked, so blah. Thank you, and please keep us updated! susanlynn
Sure, the stars in the eyes, they are because of sleep deprivation? I thought they were caused by stress. Bye
Raquin
Maybe's it's both? I also get them when I'm dehydrated.

susanlynn
Maybe's it's both? I also get them when I'm dehydrated. Last night I saw the psychiatrist, and he judged that I was doing pretty okay, just blubbering because of relationship problems. Ouch. I'll see him again in a couple months. susanlynn
so last week the neurologist said that maybe the foot pain wasn't from coming off tegretol. And, had I mentioned that maybe I've felt a little more depressed, coming off? More real? Thanks!

Seems I'll need to wait a little until my psychiatrist feels better, to continue tapering down.
