witchywoman
My pdoc raised my Lithium not quite 2 weeks ago from 600 mg to 900 mg. I asked the other day about lithium toxicity because I wasn't feeling so hot. Well, Im still having some effects. My appetite is nothing. Im having trouble eating. Having some headaches and muscle pain. Also I don't know if it's tremor or what but my muscles are jerking, especially bad in the morning. Im always spilling coffee on myself. My serum level is 0.5 which is the same as it was on 600 mg. I don't know if this could be related to my lithium, seroquel (seroquel is new also. I love it so don't want it to be from it), or if it's just totally unrelated. My pdoc is on vacation for a couple more weeks, I see another pdoc on the 30th for a second opinion. Im considering calling my family doc on Monday if Im still having issues. Thanks for any info/insight.
Silver
Talk to your psychiatrist about it or the consulting psychiatrist. Not sure what "trouble eating" means - if it's just loss of appetite, is it perhaps related to the mood disorder? Or do you have a little nausea, which could certainly be due to lithium (and does tend to get better)? That doesn't sound like a description of lithium toxicity. 0.5 is not a 'toxic' level or even an impairing level for the vast majority of people; geriatric and neurologically-interesting patients would be the exception. "Muscles jerking" can be due to a multitude of things, many of which are not med-related. Of the meds listed in your sig, especially with the new Seroquel, the Seroquel would be the most likely culprit by quite a margin - if one is assuming that the 'jerking' is a med-related dykinesia / dystonia. Sorry. They are manageable, however, so it doesn't necessarily mean relinquishing the Seroquel. However, there are a LOT of things that cause muscle jerks. So don't fall into the trap of assuming that it must be due to meds because it's associated with the start of meds. That's suggestive, but it doesn't nail anything down. Really. EPS/dyskinesias can occur with lithium but are fairly rare.
witchywoman
Thanks Silver. As far as the eating, Im not really nauseas, just eating is kinda gross. I dont know how else to explain it. I can be eating something I normally love, like I was last night, and just had trouble getting it down. I don't really understand it, or can really explain it. Dont think Im going to get sick, just gross.
