kjauron
Anyone have this? It usually only affects me during the day when I'm taking a nap...like somehow my consciousness never quite falls asleep fully so something will awaken my mind and I'll want to shift my position or get up but I can't. Last night for some reason I had this go on continually (cycle of drifting off, feeling paralyzed, panicking, gasping for air, then drifting off again) and it was horrible. I really don't know how to explain it other than being conscious (though not completely awake) but unable to move. I've mentioned it in passing to my friends and family but nobody seems to know what I'm talking about.
Artemisia
I don't have it, but it's not uncommon. In a way, you're lucky. You could also be having actual nightmares while unable to move--though I realize that mere inability to move at will can quite be terrifying. Choosing_the_blue_pills
I've had this once. I lied in my bed and stared at the ceiling, not being able to move. A long time later I heard that this is not uncommon. Thought I was going to die at the time.

It can happen on it's own, or happen as a symptom of something else. If you can, it's worth seeing a sleep doctor to find out which it is. ~ May
ScavengerType
It's happened to me once and it was pretty weird although it didn't really scare me as I'd read about it before so I knew what was happening. Nonetheless it was still a really fucked up experience, I would actually like it to happen again as I'm quite interested in it. I would imagine it would be quite scary if you were not aware of what was happening though.
Junebug13
I've had it happen to me a few times. It no longer scares me, although it used to. Oddly enough, I have only experienced it while taking a nap as well.
NailFlower
I get this from time to time. before I knew what it was it used to scare me really, really bad. It does feel terrible, like you're going to die. Now I know what it is, it's a little easier to bear and wait out.
mika
It used to happen when I was about 10-12 when I would sleep in my parents' bed. I couldn't move (i would try to reach out to touch my mother but I couldn't) or scream, it was awful. I ended up developing epilepsy (grand mal) a few years later. Not sure if they are related but possibly?
kjauron
I ended up developing epilepsy (grand mal) a few years later. Not sure if they are related but possibly? Yikes, I hope not! But then, I'm already on Lamictal so I guess I should be good, right? Anyway, it's happened to me for several years during naps, and hasn't happened at night since that one time last week. So, hopefully it was kind of a rare thing brought on by my weird state of sleep at that time...I dunno.
Mayteana
I ended up developing epilepsy (grand mal) a few years later. Not sure if they are related but possibly?Well, there's some sleep seizures that can present an awful lot like sleep paralysis. ~ May

I had a 48 hour EEG and they didn't find anything though.
