eyelids swollen--side effect?

Recommended Posts

OK,

really sorry to bother you guys repeatedly, please forgive! but I was just curious if you thought this might be a symptom from the Valproic acid liquid. (I mean, I know that anybody can have weird side effects to any drug.)

I woke up around 3 this morning (why is it always at some ungodly hour?) & my eyes felt weird so I noticed the upper lids were swollen. Not shut, just swollen a little. No itching. Not red. So I popped some Benadryl and went back to bed. They were mostly normal when I woke up at 10 am (off work today woo hoo!).

I had taken 125 mg liquid Depakote at 8 pm last night, making it the 10th day I've been on it. Finally noticed some mood improvement yesterday! Things did not seem hopeless, no suicidal or SI thoughts, felt "ok" for the first time in literally MONTHS. So it would totally suck if the med was giving me some allergic reaction!!!!!! Should I try it again tonight? I mean, I can live with puffy eyelids. I just don't want my throat to swell up!

But see, I take several other meds, so who knows if it's one of them or a combination? Zoloft, Buspar, and took Skelaxin 800mg for shoulder/neck pain yesterday afternoon. Plus, I wore eye makeup yesterday after a few days of not wearing it, so gently washed eyelids before bed. So THAT could be it.

OK, I'll shut up now. I am just so afraid that I found something that might work for me but would make me swell up like a balloon and I'd have to quit taking it!!!!! I am honestly, totally and completely terrified of going back to feeling crappy--yet I do not feel physically anxious, yay Depakote?

Life is just one big adjustment to meds, isn't it? Sheesh....

Try taking it again tonight.. it sounds more like it was from an irritant than a side effect but you will know for sure if you don't wear eye makeup today.. don't clean your eyes before bed and take the med.

That way it is a controlled situation.

I don't know about other people but my eyelids can be puffy sometimes after I wake up with no apparent cause what so ever.

I get eye swelling from any number of meds. It could easily be the Depakote. Check the side effects, and look for rare and odd reactions. I often get those and not the common ones. For example, Wellburtin- I got the weird tongue spasm. That is rare.It is a form of an EPS reaction, I believe.

Believe what you see.
