Hopping on board the crazy train

Recommended Posts

Name: Kayla or AJ

Age: 18

My crazed self: Well, this past year I was FINALLY given a diagnosis as to what had been plaguing me for most of my life. I was told that I had a panic disorder along with SAD and OCD. I was also told I suffered from ADHD. I was extremely relieved to finally be give answers.

Other stuff about me that isn't quite as nutty:

So I might be a bit off kilter, but that's not all their is to me. I'm also an honors student, an AP scholar, part of the two person team that won 2nd place at the National HOSA competition in Forensic medicine, and I am about to start my first year in college. My illnesses might be a part of me, but isn't about to rule my life, I won't let it!

Welcome to CB.

I like your attitude: I will do what I want to and if you don't like it, f*ck you! ;)

After all, if you have been sick all this time AND still are an honors student who has done all you have, is there really any reason merely being a bit "different" should stop you from doing what you want to? No: How many people can do what you can and are 100%, certified sane? Not many.

Thanks! I've had a very supportive family, especially my mother, who has sat up with me many nights when I felt so nervous I made myself sick and I couldn't go to sleep. Because of the strength that my friends and family have I've finally reached a point in my life where I feel that I can handle almost anything that comes my way; I figure I already know what hell feels like-it's been in my head- so anything else that life throws at me I can handle with no problems. And if a couple of illnesses from the DSMV think they can stop me, they can kiss my ass!

Welcome to our happy home and I hope you find some good information here.

I'm glad you're not letting your MI kick your butt and prevent you from being a good student. However, keep in mind that taking a med for an illness can make your life infinitely easier, so everything isn't such a struggle. I think it's great if you can function without them, but keep an open mind regarding their use.

Check out our forum for students because I bet you'll find some sympathetic souls hanging out there.

Thank you all for the welcomes. I normally go by AJ but Kayla is fine as well. I'm open minded about meds, I'm not on any right now, but I have already talked to a counselor about this possibility of taking them once I started college- you know big change+ classes= possible need for ADHD med and something to keep me from spazzing quite so much.
