ScavengerType
So I started taking Lithium two days ago and am wondering if anyone here would like to share their experiences with this medication. I'm wondering how long before I can expect to see an affect? Also how will I be able to tell? They put me on it as I was coming out of a depression and feeling half decent so I'm not sure what to expect really. Can I expect to never get depressed again? I'm new to all this and really confused. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ScavengerType
I take 300 mg for 4 days then 600 mg for 4 days and then 900 mg there after. No I'm not currently on anything else.
Beetzart
I started on 400mg then after a month went upto 600mg. It has worked wonders for me with only two side effects: hand tremors, and a dulling of creativity. Apart from that it is easily the best drug I have ever taken. I hope it works for you. recoverymouse
how's it going scavenger? I started at 600 myself, which may be why the effect was immediate for me... I'm still on 600. It's supposed to be adjunctive to my antidepressants.

I mean I didn't get drunk or anything I'm just not sure what the limit is so I stopped at 5.
fuchsia groan
Anything that dehydrates you is a bad idea while on lithium. Alcohol is a diuretic. I'd say 5 beers is too much. 750 (blood level 0.6) turned out to be a good dose for me, in combination with my other meds. It's keeping me sane! Hope it will help you too. recoverymouse
scavanger, I don't drink so I can't say. warnings about mixing alcohol with pharmaceuticals tend to be overstated IMHO.... however, lithium is a special case, it can mess up your kidney, it's a salt, etc. I would ask your doctor. Especially if you are a regular drinker.
Silver
I'd say five beers is too much if you're trying to get your mood disorder sorted out. No matter what you're taking. Beer's also rather famous for messing up the level of sodium in one's blood when you drink it in large quantities. This ain't the time to be jacking your cations around, as that does fun things to lithium levels. But that's a whole separate issue: five shots would not be better. Not yelling, not scolding, just saying. Try to keep that to 1-2 beers, perhaps, and you might find that you get much better results from your meds at a much faster rate. And I'm going to assume your psychiatrist knows about this 5 beers thing, because otherwise s/he is treating you without sufficient information... if not, probably a great idea to talk to her/him about it. S/he can only work with the available data. Hope that helps.
