Susan Atkins (Ex-Mason Follower) dies of brain cancer in prison at 61

While she managed to exorcize the cancer that affected her psyche during the Manson years, it is somehow ironic that brain cancer took her life.

eek. that makes it all sound so tragically sad. which it is. everything associated with manson and his "family" is sad... and tragic...

(and so fucking facinating*)

Was she the one John Waters was trying to get paroled?

I dunno....I read that she had a whole cadre of people supporting her efforts to get paroled on compassionate grounds during her final hours (including Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecuting attorney).

I'm a pretty avid follower of "Manson Family" news.

Supposedly, there's another movie in the works; at first it was rumored that Oliver Stone was to direct it, but that somehow didn't pan out.

Here's a link to a good Manson Family site for those as morbidly fascinated as I am: http://www.mansonfamilytoday.info/manson.htm . This site is disappointing as far as being a good resource for recent updates, however.

I also found it ironic that Susan Atkins died from brain cancer, and just a few short weeks after her 'compassionate release' hearing.

There was a big controversy over whether she should have been released, as the State of California was paying up to $10,000 a day for her care. A lot of people who have no health coverage at all were pretty upset as well.
