Heatherta7
I was just prescribed Gabitril for anxiety as well as loss of memory due to Lamictal. I am on Lamictal and Abilify. Anyone have comments on the drug Gabitril? I have been doing research online and found many horrow stories from people that took Gabitril. I am now scared to take it. kdbee
eek. I'd never heard of the drug so did some research on it. I'd be scared, too. I wonder why your pdoc prescribed it for you. Have you tried other more commonly used AC's that haven't worked? I'm just wondering if he/she put you on this as the others might have failed? Hmm... Velvet Elvis
I took it. It's a lot like neurontin and Lyrica. It helped with my anxiety a bit at lower doses. As I went up it started to make me nauseous so I had to quit taking it. It's not that obscure a drug.
Heatherta7
So I took Gabitril for the first time. I hated it and will NEVER use it again. It gave me paranoia, bad thoughts and I literally curled up in a ball in my closet! I had a funny feeling I should not take that drug. I had asked my pdoc for the smallest dose of Zanax and I only needed 10 as this lasts me a good 6 months. He gave me the Gabitril instead. I rarely have anxiety attacks but when I do, they are severe. My whole body locks up and I have to control my breathing so I won't pass out. I am definitely going to tell my pdoc that this med does not work for me.
Silver
Uh, yeah. Not so much recommended for off-label use. It has some kind of serious potential adverse effects, as do they all. It's a strong anti-anxiety drug for some, but, as a neurologist I know put it, "This is one of the few anti-epileptic drugs I sure wish psychiatrists wouldn't screw around with." Specifically, it has some risk of inducing absence seizures; see here and look in the bottom right corner under "main disadvantages." Unfortunately, you can't get to page 507 in the Google preview, which is a shame, because it's a really good explanation.
