Hello, it's me.

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm a 29 year old BPII with fairly severe anxiety, both social and general. I'm currently taking 1200mg lithium, 20 mg celexa, some amount of trazodone for insomnia, klonopin to get me through work and birth control pills for my PMDD. Phew, that's a mouthful. I'm also currently going through an extremely tough time in my life, if the last week counts as a "time". I keep dwelling on the hope that it'll be over and better soon (obsession is kind of like praying for me), but the people I'm dealing with were put on this Earth with the sole purpose of making life difficult for other people all while only working half days on Fridays. My interests include my three cats, Oliver, Stanley and Kitty and until last weekend, my boyfriend. I like to play World of Warcraft, read myserty novels and some Stephen King and Dean Koontz, sleep too much (because after years of insomnia, you can really never get enough sleep), and write when I get in the mood. Unfortunately, I've rarely been in the mood since I started taking lithium. I count that as a blessing and a curse. I'm not tormented anymore, but I'm also an average person. If I could be a fruit, I'd be a pineapple because they're oh so tasty and easy to eat if you buy them precut ;)

Hi!

I like Stephen King. I went through a period where I was totally enthralled with him and read and re-read all of the books- whatever I could get my hands on. Don't read so much anymore.

I'm on 1200mg lithium, too. [as well as other things, link in my signature if you need to know more]

I did it more difficult to just pull creative stuff out of my ass the more under control my moods get, but it doesn't mean it's not there, ya know? Just have to work at it. And PRACTICE.And it's difficult because I'm not *used to* it being really hard work. Used to it being more natural, like an instinct, rather than something I have to encourage. So, if you want to write, try practicing every single day, even if it's just stream of consciousness writing. It may take a while but eventually your head will probably remember what to do.

Sometimes we have to relearn things along the way.

I do suggest starting a blog if you haven't already.

People are pretty supportive.

Nice to have you here.

Luna.

Hi Pinkiemarie,

I am new too - and I have read every STeven King book (well except Dark Tower series) and some Koontz stuff too. Lately I've been into historical fiction - just started Helen of Troy the novel - it's HUGE and i'm like 3 pages into it but so far so good :) I was on lithium 12 years ago - saved me big time, i remember it took a good couple of weeks to level out but ultimately it was a great drug that helped me integrate and be healthy. I really should go back on it but don't want to for the samereasons you mention - jeez - i get hot flashes whenever i get over-anxious - happening now just thinking about it. oh well lol

take care

Sadly for me I've only read like a couple of Steven King books. I rotate between authors a lot. Right now I'm reading the Bad Place by Koontz because my dad had told me that it was the scariest book ever and it would make me crap my pants...I think my dad must be easily frightened! So, not exactly historical fiction, but have you ever read the Plague by Camus? I don't even know why I like him because his writing style is somewhat dry at times, but I'm a fan.

And as for the anxiety, are you in therapy? Currently I'm not. But I have been slowly making my way through http://www.anxietybc.com/. They do give some practical advice for dealing with anxiety. I've been trying to work on breathing. I hold my breath when I'm anxious lol.

I am in therapy - once a week - was at twice a week forever. Had to laugh when you said you hold your breath about anxiety - as i read that I realized that i was holding MY breath - I do that a lot too! When I remember to breath out and breath in deeply its like, wow, breathing is good :)

I have ready every Jodi Picoult book and then felt lost w/o an author to follow for the longest time, so hopefully I can just get back to reading - I'm at the buy books and then not read them stage and it doesn't help that I'm back in school and really what I need to be reading is my Psych book lol

take care
