remedy48
I've just started on an antidepressant called celexa at 10mg. Normally I would think that it would help with anxiety but my anxiety levels have increased. Is it normal when starting no an antidepressant to feel more anxious at the start? Will the anxiety eventually decrease over time. My pdoc said it can take 4-6 weeks for it to start working. Will the anxiety decrease once its been 4-6 weeks? Or will it just get worse? Artemisia
Yes, it's pretty common to experience increased anxiety at first. The initial side effects should go away in the first 2 weeks of treatment, even though it may take up to 2 months for the antidepressant to really kick in. If the initial side effects don't go away in about 2 weeks, then they're here to stay (and you may want to switch meds if the side effects are bad enough). You may also experience some of the same side effects when you increase your dosage. Good luck!
tryp
I had exactly this with Celexa. It eased off a bit, but it never went away completely, and I ended up needing to add on extra Seroquel to deal with it.
remedy48
How bad was the anxiety tryp? Originally I wanted to go on something else but if this does continue I'd rather switch now than have to deal with more severe anxiety.
tryp
It was pretty bad, but it never got worse than it was when I first started the med. I was fidgety and race-y and generally not nice. I don't know what would have happened if I'd just put up with it, because I upped my seroquel pretty quickly after that.
