The Emperor
I don't know anything about this, we are about to move to a new house, and at this house, we have fios. We don't pay for it. Verizon was saying that for the phone, internet, and t.v shit we would pay $180 a month for those three services Comcast, on the other hand, for the first 12 months was going to be between $82-99 and after that $114 a month. Sounds like a hell of a better deal to me. Does anyone know the difference in the internet connection there? Is fios THAT much better than comcast? I don't download a whole bunch of shit or anything, and, would I still be able to watch Monday Night Football? Anyone have any advice? We is po. THIS is OFFICIALLY the last thread I will start today. scatty
You could check out their websites. I get ESPN, but don't know if it's in the basic package.
celestia
I don't know what FIOS is but we have Comcast. My guess is that FIOS is DSL? since it's offered by Verizon? If I understood that correctly. I've had DSL and Comcast and I can't say there was any substantive differences in the quality of service. The both suck big donkey balls when it comes to billing. Special room in hell for Comcast execs. Right on the same wing as the Insurance execs. I moved in June and got cable and internet. We have HBO, Shotime and Cinemax plus I guess the regular base of 78 channels. I got phone service through vonage since it's only 28 bucks a month with unlimited calling including international. They sent us a modem that was very easy to install and was free. The quality of the phone service is really good too. So, add them all up and I still pay less than 100 bucks a month. I did get a 12 mos. deal on the front end for I think 29.99 for cable and internet and then the rest were add ons (except the phone--it utilizes the cable service not a phone line.) nalgas
FiOS is fiber optic, not over the phone line like DSL. It's ridiculously fast if you get one of the higher end packages. They also offer cheaper, slower ones. I've seen dramatically cheaper than that in the crap Verizon sent us in the mail. Same with cable, a lot of the time, in terms of pricing/bundles. Without knowing which packages from each one are being compared, there is not really any way to say who's ripping you off more or which you'd get more use out of. I passionately hate both companies, though, for whatever that's worth.
scatty
We pay $150 a month to comcast for phone, cable and internet. WE get HBO,STARZ, and all the basic PLUS channels. Plus an HD DVR and the ability to tape shows. It was hell to get. We switched to a package for $99, cuz the guy lied and said it included what we had. The local office was nice and compromised at $150 for 2 years. That's damn good for what we have. BTW, HD channels cost extra, but if you have an HD t.v. the picture is sensational. Just don't believe the door to door salesmen. They are all going to hell, as S9 said.
The Emperor
Wow, I guess we should all compile a big nasty hate letter full of vile comments, cursing, and death threats. Yeah, they piss me off too, but who am I supposed to get my fix from? They are the only dealers I know. I thought comcast had wireless internet? Am I wrong? Because I have a lap top. I think the packages were about the same, I don't have an HD T.V, but my dad (who will stay with us for a while) had a really nice one, I'm sure he'd want digital cable. It's hard to know what to do. So I guess I'll have to go back and look again at those two sites and really LOOK this time and see what they are really offering, but $180 a month is fucking ridiculous. Hmmm, health insurance or cable and internet? There's a free health clinic here. . .
Mayteana
If you want wireless internet through your house, you get a wireless router. Around me, Verizon includes that in their package. But it's also something you can buy on your own and set up. 180 dollars is fucking ridiculous. ~ May
Artemisia
I'd be tempted to try FiOS if you can afford it, and it's available where you are. It sounds awesome. The phone not being VoIP is another bonus for when electricity goes out.
Stars
We love fios b/c they have the BEST MOVIE PACKAGES . We have showtime, and most of all the major ones- all except Home Box- all for $13.99 a month. It is incredible. comcast has nothing to compare, not in our area. So if it movies you are looking for- go with Fios. I pay $147. month for a package deal, all 3, TV, internet, phone. not too bad- that includes taxes and everything. The Emperor
Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm just confused about this entire process. I'm looking for a "bundle" with pretty good t.v, fast internet that I can use with my laptop and PC, and whatever the hell about the phone. I'm probably pretty dense about all this shit, and I just tried to order something from comcast online and I couldn't understand what the fuck I was supposed to do about the damn boxes because they didn't ASK me how many fucking converter boxes I wanted. I know I need the one EM fucking something or other thing for the internet, but then they are asking if I want this G thing or N thing for the laptop and I'm like "I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THIS SHIT IS" so I went to all the FAQ's and "This shit for Dummies" shit and, yeah, still didn't get it. I'm certain that talking to an actual person on the phone would help me quite a bit more with this, but hell, those people are all fucking. . .ugh. I don't know. I'm probably quite obviously irritated with this entire process. As far as I can tell, Comcast would be cheaper. But, like someone else already stated, if the power goes out, the phone goes out, and then of course my house will catch on fire or someone will break in and I won't be able to call 911, but I do know I could get a Medic Alert fucking button necklace shit for that. Sorry, I'm tired, I just got done packing all this fucking shit all by myself after a long day of fucking shopping for all the shit we are going to need for a new house and walking all over the fucking place after waking up way too eary in the morning after getting too little sleep. Fucking Comast or Verizon can kiss my ass. Until tomorrow when I will need their help. * I cuss a lot, I am not yelling at the computer, or incredibly worked up or anything, it's just how I roll. AnneMarie
Here, comcast has different DSL speeds, from more than what you'll probably need to it'll piss you off it is that slow. Go to their website and find out what's bundled into your package. There should be some info on speed, too. If not, call up an ask someone to explain it as how fast to download something you know. I do comcast for DSL and Dish satellite for tv. I'm not so thrilled with Dish but it's half the cost of comcast and I don't watch that often. I gave up my land line phone a while ago. Velvet Elvis
I use these guys: http://www.speakeasy.net/ They only offer DSL and VOIP. You get what you pay for and I've never had any problems with them. Customer service is top notch, I've never had a single problem.. We use them for internet, somebody else for the landline, somebody else for long distance, somebody else for cell phones, somebody else for TV but it still works out being the best deal. The Emperor
Thanks everyone. I just called those bastards at comcast and got my service set up, but they won't install the shit until next Friday, that sucks, because we'll be in the house by Monday, but whatever, I'll just go a little more crazy every day. We are installing out own internet to save money, but we got cable, phone, and internet for $107 a month. Better than the scam verizon was trying to pull on us. You have to PAY to have an unlisted number??? I wouldn't, but she said I could be listed under whatever name I wanted and I chose Ms. Tiredpants. Thanks for all the suggestions and all, I appreciate it.
celestia
his is nice if your power goes out and for some reason you don't have a cell phone. Also, if your internet goes out with Comcast, so does your phone. With Verizon, they are independent of one another. This is a major consideration I kind of forgot about. I have a cell phone for emergencies, but if it were dead (due to losing it in my house) I would have no lines out during a power failure. If my cable is out, so is my phone. beetle
I sure wish I had your problem. Which highspeed internet access to choose? You mean you have a choice? You mean you have broadband? lol I live out where there is nothing. Not DSL, cable, nothing. I have to use satellite for both TV and internet. And it sucks. When we used to live in town we had cable internet and we used Vonage. I never worried about it going out with the cable. Always had my cell. scatty
I swear comcast always has a special going. Is that their going rate or a special? After taxes and fees it will be a bit more. I didn't know we could list our # with whatever name. I'm gonna have dh change it to something funny!
Guest Sandy
Just had a comcast guy offer me a deal for a tv, internet and phone bundle and I am considering it, but my sister-in-law...a computer geek, swears by fios. My question is, I have 6 tv's and 4 computers in my house and they are all used. The comcast guy says I need boxes for all of them. I have Broadstripe now. I don't have any boxes but Broadstripe sucks. Do I need boxes for Fios? Do I have to pay for each tv with Fios and Comcast?
