tryp
So I saw pdoc today. I'm still having bad insomnia, nightmares, not even sleeping through the night anymore. I asked her if she could give me something. I've tried benzos and the hypnotics, which all make me suicidal, Remeron, melatonin, and Seroquel, which I'm still on for depression/anxiety/sleep. Pdoc suggested Traz, but she said I'd have to drop my nighttime Seroquel (150 mg) because she's worried about oversedation. I told her I didn't want to do that because I was worried that dropping that much Seroquel that fast would cause withdrawal and/or a resurgence of depression/anxiety issues, which have already been an issue lately. So at the moment, I have no sleep solution. What do you guys think? Should I take the Traz and drop half my Seroquel? At the moment, I'm going to try to stick it out, but it's not too much fun. I asked pdoc about raising the Seroquel and she wasn't enthused. What I really wanted to do was raise my daytime Seroquel on the grounds that if I can get my daytime anxiety/mood issues under control again, I'll start sleeping on my own. She really didn't want me to do that, though she did okay adding a little more Seroquel at nighttime. I don't think it will help much, but I guess I'll give it a go for the moment. Duelist
THat's hard tryp, I know the seroquel is helping you, maybe TRY halving it with 100 mgs of trazadone, I have noticed with the recent upping of my trazadone that I am NOT nearly as sleepy as I was on 100 mgs. Weird eh?
Persephone
How about z-drugs (ambien, lunesta, etc.) Tryp? Can you tolerate those? They're suppose to cause less of a hangover than the traz.

recoverymouse
FYI there's no guarantee trazadone will have any somnolence effect at all. I know a ton of folks who have been prescribed it for sleep because it's a first line treatment for insomnia for those of us with addiction issues. Works beautifully for some folks, not at all for others. I took it briefly and found it was hit or miss. On those nights where it did knock me out, the sleep was not restful. dancesintherain
one of the tricyclics? (amitriptyline is the one that I'm thinking of that causes sleepiness, I think) it's a crappy situation to be in. my best guess of what I'd do is probably try to get permission to gradually lower seroquel and gradually add trazodone to see if it helped...just because it sounds like where you are sleep-wise really sucks. you'll probably find out within the first two or three days if trazodone helps you sleep at all or not. it didn't help me (and I knew fairly well after two tries), but it worked wonders for a friend. if no luck, you return to the way things were at least temporarily? recoverymouse
what about neurontin (gabapentin) tryp, have you tried it? definitely makes me sleepy when I take it at night. very low side effect profile. you would probably need to take a hefty dose to get the sleep effect. it works at 1600 mgs for me, anything less and i don't feel it. however i do get the anti-anxiety effects at the lower doses.
