wellbutrin adderall and ?

I am kind of stable on 300 mg wellbutrin and 20 mg adderall XR plus and extra 10 mg if it poops out in the late afternoon and I still need to function. While pretty functional, I still range from a bit down to screamingly depressed(no, I don't scream, but I want to). I have some issues with stress-it is a trigger to the very black moments. As a rule adderall and wellbutrin makes me mellow and focused. Sometimes the adderall can even make me sleepy if I take it in the p.m. A while ago I tried some type of benzo as a kind of rescue drug when I got too stressed. It really did not touch the stress enough to make it worthwhile. Perhaps you may be thinking that "of course she is susceptible to stress, anyone would be on so much speed type meds." Pdoc not unwisely refuses my request to up wellbutrin to 450 mg. I guess what I am looking for is what the benzo should have been, but wasn't-instant pain relief. Any thoughts? Is there something out there? I am in talk therapy with a shrink I genuinely like and respect. I am making progress, but it does not feel like I can process, cognative behave etc. myself out of this problem right now. Thanks

Does your depression come with a comorbid condition starting with "Attention-Deficit", by any chance? Benzos are good at what they do, but not so effective when a person's first instinct is to fight to stay awake.

Um, nope. Been there, done that.

Instant pain relief is a bit much to hope for. Maybe adding a low dose of an "activating" tricyclic would help - the catch being that it would be really easy to trigger a hypertensive episode with such a cocktail. Or you could discuss with your doctor whether a higher and/or split stimulant dose would work. Maybe even Provigil, if excess sedation is part of the stress? There are other options, but at the least discuss the current drawbacks of the current mix with your doctor.
