withing
So, I2D2 asked me to go to a football game yesterday, and I said sure 'cause I'm trying to get over my thing with crowds. We also went to a "tailgate" party with the ESL center - which hardly anyone showed up to and that wasn't too bad 'cause the few people who *did* show up were okay, plus it was far away from the rest of the crowds. Anyway, after the tailgate party broke up - two hours early - we attempted to wander around the crowd, but I immediately started getting a migraine because people were shouting, shoving and ringing their damned cow bells!!! So we went to the Union and sat down away from the crowds until it was time to go to the game. Sitting in the stands was horrible! We ended up in a section that was close to the field, and we must have ended up in the frat section or something because we were surrounded by drunk kids and girls who were dressed to the nines... God help me, why would anyone wear a dress and high heels to a football game??? I couldn't see anything of the game because every time I got a good view, someone stood in front of me (no one sat down but me the entire time we were there). There *were* a couple of kids who tried to stay out of my way, I'll give them that. One of their friends was chewing tobacco and kept spitting on the ground - gross. And of course, everyone kept ringing their damned cow bells!!! But I can handle all of that... What I could not deal with is the fact that every time we made a score, some asshole above us threw beer all over the stands. Even though we only made three touchdowns and two field goals, I was soaked with beer by the time we left at half-time. That may not have been as bad if it weren't a night game and I detest the smell of beer. We left at halftime 'cause both of us were sick of the idiots that surrounded us, and really, football gets boring after a while if there's nothing else to occupy you through the downtimes. I2D2 was great through it all. He didn't come to the tailgating 'cause he had to work, but he didn't complain when we had to get away from the crowds afterwards, and I tried not to bitch about the beer *too* much. Still, I think if we ever go to another game, I'm sitting all the way at the top, with my back against the wall and as far away from anyone as I can get. Renegade
I'm very impressed. Not for love or money would I ever attend a football game--and I would throttle anyone who threw beer on me.
beetle
Oh lord...not the beer spilling guy. That's just great isn't it? I hate crowds for all the same reasons and then some. I'd never go to a football game cause I don't care about football but I've been to concerts with much the same crap that you mentioned. Including beer spilling guy. liveoak
When people tailgate, how do they watch the game? and where do they go to the bathroom with the voluminous amounts of beer they drink?
Rabbit37
Tailgating occurs before the game, not during. I'm with ya, Path. I can't stand crowds, and like Renegade said, there's no WAY I'd attend a game.
SashaSue
I like going to maybe one football game every year or so. But apparently Alabama fans are much better behaved than yours are, Patheral. Definitely no beer spilling, but then, I'd think they'd see that as a waste of resources.
withing
Tailgating occurs before the game, not during. I'm with ya, Path. I can't stand crowds, and like Renegade said, there's no WAY I'd attend a game. OMG! Tailgating is such a huge event here... Everyone comes out and sets up "tents" (big-assed canopies) the day before the game and then they spend the entire day under those tents before, during, and after the game. That's what they call "tailgating." Nearly every department in the school has a tent, and of course alumni come to every home game, so they set up their own tents. Okay, about half to three-quarters of the people go into the game and leave all their junk under their "tents," but a good deal of them just sit there and watch the game on their TVs! WTF??? It's a mystery to me. I've walked through this tent city a couple of times on my way home from class and these people aren't even interacting with each other. They're all huddled in their little groups, messing up the grass, hogging up the sidewalk, ignoring the basic rules of courtesy, and it just really trips my nerves. Students can't even park for classes the day before a game - and forget moving my car from my home parking space! The one time I did that, I had to park two blocks away and carry groceries home from there. Inconsiderate assholes.
Rabbit37
Man, I'm glad I don't live in a football town! That sounds insane.
scatty
Sorry that happened to you. I avoid games. My man likes to take our older son to red sox and celtic's games. The crowd is low key and milder at those games. You won't see us at Patriot's games.
