The Emperor
No, I can't get the names of my drugs straight, and yes I am too lazy to get up and find the paper the PA gave me that said this. Anyway, I am about to start Prozac(generic) here in less than a week and, yeah, on the paper the PA gave me, it listed all kinds of things the PI sheet probaby will as well. Anyway, one was possible drug interactions, and what I READ and thought I understood, which could be a mistake on my part, was that you should be careful while taking prozac with (insert long name of drug I cannot recall) because this can cause hallucinations. I BELIEVE the drug is that DXM shit (yeah, I was a loser in highschool and that's what I call it) that is in like fuckin robotussin and nyquill and Coricidin. Maybe I am wrong about that though. So does anyone know anything about this, had some crazy side efffects due to this interaction(that may or may not exist, by the way, I'm too lazy to use google at the moment) or have any idea what I am talking about? Because I don't. Thanks.
Entities
Well on it's own DXM can cause hallucinations...I'm sad enough to know that there's different plateaus of effects from downing a bottle of something like Robutussin,Vicks,Nylin etc etc.So yeah I'd avoid it, well atleast avoid a whole bottle or two because that's what the teens nowadays use to get their kicks. But I've read it can cause permanent damage so yeah, not very wise. Sorry if I didn't answer your question I wasn't sure what you were asking :S
graduation day
Not to answer your question, but honey has been proven to be more effective than dextromethorphan when it comes to coughing.
The Emperor
Thanks guys. In no way whatsoever was I planning on chugging the shit or anything. I just wasn't going to be in the mood for that kind of neat little surprise if I got a cold and took a shot of nyquil to stop coughing so I could sleep over the winter or something. I didn't know if they meant LARGE amounts of dextrothemorphen or just your recommended dose for a cold or what. I don't know, I found that slightly alarming. mudpuppy
DXM and most anti-depressants is a bad mix. The result? Possible serotonin syndrome.

AirMarshall
Follow the directions on the cough syrup label and you are unlikely to have problems. Too much of anything can make you feel bad. a.m.
The Emperor
Yeah, I managed to google it this morning and found out(and this was hard) that serotonin syndrome is possible. However, I don't understand whether it's risky to just take the recommended dosage and THAT wold be risking serotonin syndrome or they are just saying that I shouldn't go to first period on Prozac and shit tons of DXM because my math teacher will give me detention or have me arrested. (I'm not really in high school, but I was and knew some idiots in highschool that actually did this, I didn't go to school like that, for the record.) beetle- No robotrippin' for me these days, I'm still an idiot but not THAT big of an idiot. So, wait, you mean, you guys aren't doctors or pharmacists??? Maybe I should call one concerning this. I know you guys aren't doctors or pharmacists, or hell, maybe some of you are, did you know I'm an Emperor? So established at 23. Although there's a toddler that has total and complete rule over me and my kingdom, I'M BEING OVERTHROWN!!! Am I sure I'm not on it right now? I'll stop being ridiculous, and call a phamacist if I need to. I just found that a little bizarre, but it makes sense.

The Emperor
http://www.erowid.or....shtml#toc.4.16 I laughed so hard when I saw this link MP! I was looking at that earlier. I'm having a bad ass day, I know if that made me laugh so hard. Thanks, maybe you didn't intend to, but that made me laugh.
null0trooper
No, I can't get the names of my drugs straight, and yes I am too lazy to get up and find the paper the PA gave me that said this. Dextromethorphan. There are two basic risks: Prozac inhibits the liver enzyme that's critical to detoxing DXM, so a normal dose will hit harder and the "medicated" feeling will last longer than usual. A dose high enough for an average robo-trip could become "fatal case of death" dangerous. This is a *serious* interaction with bupropion, which binds even more strongly to said enzyme. Also, DXM is suspected of being a serotonin reuptake inhibitor in its own right. You might not end up with full-blown serotonin syndrome (unless you take way too much) but you're likely to get more of the annoying SSRI side effects than you usually would. Maceo
Pseudoephedrine is another cold remedy that interacts with Prozac. Phenelphryne (sp?) probably does too. I never take cold and flu tablets when I'm on SSRI's.

The Emperor
In case anyone was curious, I now have a cold(I think, it's probably H1N1 and we're all going to die, but whatever) So I finally managed to find the strength to lift my little fingers and call the pharmacist on this one. She said it would be safe for me to take any medication with dextromethorphan in it as long as it was only a few days course nd just the recommended dosage and that I shouldn't be tripping balls off that or anything. So, yeah, it's all good.
