scatty
I don't want to drop the AD that I think is destroying my sex life. I do want to have and enjoy sex again. I have some gel that helps a bit, but I wanted to know if anyone has some good ideas? I don't want to add wellbutrin to my already big list of meds. Viagra is out, because it's not covered by my insurance. Any other ideas?
SashaSue
I'm not seeing an AD in your med list? What is it I'm missing, or what do you think is wrecking your sex life?
tryp
Anafranil and Doxepin are both TCAs, SashaSue
Artemisia
SSRI and SNRI antidepressants have neutered me. No libido and no orgasms for me. I tried adding Wellbutrin, but it didn't help in that department.
SashaSue
Anafranil and Doxepin are both TCAs, SashaSue Of course they are, and I looked right past them, expecting to see SSRI's, or something. Duh....
Cuttlefish
Anafranil and Doxepin are both TCAs, SashaSue Of course they are, and I looked right past them, expecting to see SSRI's, or something. Duh.... Anafranil is one of the most notorious TCA's for sexual side effects, and it's not really used as much as an antidepressant these days as it is for severe OCD. Is this the antidepressant you are talking about that you don't want to drop? If you are taking Anafranil for depression, there really are some better options out there in TCA land, with lower chances of sexual side effects. Desipramine and nortriptyline are the top two I was considering because of not as much problems under the belt as other TCA's from various reviews. However, I must admit that reviews can, and usually do have an element of bias. However, Anafranil does come with an interesting side effect for some. Coughing or sneezing can make you orgasm! Also be warned, these are some heavy duty antidepressants, and Desipramine is a metabolite of Imipramine, a TCA known to induce hypomanic or manic states in those who are bipolar. Wikipedia says 25% of bipolar patients switch to a hypomanic or manic state after taking Imipramine for a bit.
tryp
Cuttle, I'm pretty sure scatty IS on it for OCD However, Anafranil does come with an interesting side effect for some. Coughing or sneezing can make you orgasm! My pdoc told me that Amitriptyline can make you yawn and orgasm simultaneously
dancesintherain
This may seem random--but do I remember something about sleep disturbances currently? If so, that might be a contributing factor...and getting that under control might help in the sex world. This is mostly personal experience, but I've found that when sleep is off and I'm more tired than usual, sex can be a chore--and that makes it less desirable generally, which turns into a lack of interest. On that note, though--is it lack of interest/low sex drive? Inability to orgasm or lubricate? or something else? (sorry for being a bit graphic, but it might help with suggestions)
scatty
Yep, I take it for both depression and OCD and I find it very helpful, especially for my OCD obsessions and such. I did have sleeping problems recently, but doxepin helps me with that. I have no interest in sex. None. Poor hubby!
dancesintherain
continuing with semi-graphic questions (to the degree that you want them/are interested)-- if he starts something, do you react? in other words, is it a situation where you don't have any interest but can get aroused after a bit of time? any help by reading something sexually explicit or suggestive? an ob/gyn might have some helpful ideas. scatty
I enjoy foreplay, but it does nothing for my desire to have sex. Not even sexy books/videos do anything for me. I think I'll go to my GP, and maybe get referred to a gyn.

I'm afraid that I'm out of ideas for now. hope the doctor-y people can help identify some medical roots to it. it has to be a side effect to something. olga
scatty, you ought to be seeing a gynecologist every year for a pelvic exam, breast exam, and a Pap smear. I agree that you should talk to the doctor about this, but ultimately it's going to be something that you need to discuss with the pdoc. olga
