netsavy006
I figure since Klonopin most of the time only has to be taken once a day I'd like to make the move. But the question is how much Klonopin = 20mg of Valium that I'm already on? I see the doctor Thursday so at least it won't be a long wait. One nightly Klonopin is better than 3x/day of Valium. (should it work) Thanks, Andy...
pinkiemarie
I think this would be approximately 2 mgs of Klonopin. http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=289229

(should it work) Thanks, Andy... Both clonazepam and diazepam have similar half-lives. If you require 3X daily dosing of diazepam, then you will also require 3x daily dosing of clonazepam -- there is nothing 'magical' about clonazepam that allows it to be a once-a-day medicine, where otherwise, you'd be taking Valium 3X daily. The equivilant dose would be roughly 2mg of clonazepam. Clonazepam, being a high-potency benzodiazepine, may be harder to withdraw from, compared to diazepam (Valium). If you are stabilized on Valium, then I would see absolutely no reason why you should be considering clonazepam (Klonopin). Why are you on these meds in the first place? Are you on 60mg diazepam daily (ie: 20mg 3X daily)? That means an equivilant dose of clonazepam would be ~6mg/daily, which is pretty substantial. netsavy006
I'm on 5mg AM, 5mg PM, and 10mg Bedtime. (20mg/day total) I'm taking it for anxiety and restlessness.
Ophelia
Here are some equivalency charts: chart 1, chart 2 In my opinion, though, equivalency charts most of the time mean dick. As has already been said, klonopin is not extended release. Who said you would only need it once a day as compared to your current dosage of valium? notfred
If you are on a combo that works, do not mess with it. Resist the urge to tinker. nf
netsavy006
Who said you would only need it once a day as compared to your current dosage of valium? I thought maybe I'd only need it once a day compared to the Valium but if others are saying different then it may be best to stick to what I'm on... You don't want to mess with something for really no good reason.
gizmo
When I took klono, it worked best when I took it twice a day, if not three times a day. While it lasts a long time, it is not a drug that last 24 hours (as everyone else said). It is also a drug that tends to work best with continuous dosage as opposed to PRN (while there are many PRN klono users out there). I personally didn't like it because I'd take it at 8, have an anxiety attack a 10, and be shit outta luck until the 3 pm dose. But it works wonders for many people and has less of the "let down" that other benzos have. But again, Andy, don't go changing meds when the ones you have are working.
