Ruby Red Posted October 27, 2009 Share Posted October 27, 2009 My name isn't Ruby but it's my birth stone (apparently). My name is Brittany and I'm 18. I've been struggling with my mental health since I was 14 and to be honest, I don't know what went wrong. It just all started going downhill until I wound up completely losing it one day and ending up in a police station (long story). About a week later I was diagnosed with depression and what the doctors could only describe as a brief psychotic episode. Since then I have been on and off meds, in and out of mental health services and have also been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome which I find hard to believe that I actually have. Now after my counsellor convinced me to see a psychiatrist again I finally did today and now I'm thought to have depression (still), an anxiety disorder and possibly Bipolar. I never knew that what I called my "over-excited moments" and at other times, my "anger episodes" could be considered manic behavior (psychs words) by professionals. Heck, at those times I was just glad that I wasn't depressed anymore. I was prescribed Fluoxetine and Epilim and I hope they will do more than give me nasty side effects because for once, I'd like to not let my own mind get in the way of me completing a course of some sort. olga Posted October 27, 2009 Share Posted October 27, 2009 Ruby, welcome to CrazyBoards. I'm glad you saw a psychiatrist, because that is the first step on your journey to treating your condition. It may all seem really confusing and upsetting at this point, but give the meds a chance to work, talk to the people here and to your counselor, and I bet things will begin to get better for you. Ahh, good old July, though I would much prefer having the sapphire as my birthstone. I believe that they are the same mineral, just different colors. Welcome to the boards Ruby! I guess a ruby birthstone is kind of fitting for me because when I think if red, I think of unpredictability and anger, which would describe the last 4 years of my life but meh, there's no time like the present to make changes.
