I have been on lamictal for a year. And recently, I've started getting sporadic pimples on my face and back. I have always had clear skin, and I don't know why this is creeping up on me now.

The most recent change is a switch to generic lamictal.

Could this be the culprit?

Thanks.

Yes.

Lamictal is notorious for messing with skin conditions of all kinds. Switching brands (including generics) can have slightly different compounds or result in changes in blood levels of the drug. If this is a recent change give it some time to get used to it.

As AM said, Lamictal is known for being more likely to do that than a lot of other meds are. On the plus side, that also means that doctors are very familiar with it. My dermatologist told me that she has people come in on a fairly regular basis complaining about their skin after starting/changing Lamictal, and it usually ends up not being a big deal to fix if it doesn't go away on its own, often with just OTC stuff (although you can also get some interesting/more effective stuff prescribed by a dermatologist if necessary).

I too started getting acne after starting Lamictal. I had a person who also takes Lamictal tell me about the Clinique 3 step acne program (very inexpensive). She said it works for her. I tried it and it has been a huge help. It cleared my acne almost immediately. I suggest you try that.
