remedy48
I've seen this on some forums. You can thank others posts and it boosts there reputation Some examples of websites that have this are www.socialanxietyforums.com www.philosophyforum.com
Velvet Elvis
We've deliberately disabled that feature because it would become a popularity contest. Some of the boards have topic rating enabled if you want to use that.
mudpuppy
Yes. For example, I would vote against VE because his avatar makes me hungry, regardless of the quality of his posts.

crazynotstupid
We did have that feature once. I must say that the average quality of the posts has gone up since we dropped it. Besides, if we brought it back, I would strongly lobby for one of the titles to be "asshole" and I would aim for that...
withing
Ah, the good ol' days... I'm glad we don't have that system in place anymore.
Inspired_Neurosis
Yeah, being able to judge other posters with a point system would be a great feature for a website filled with mentally ill people with self-image issues...
mudpuppy
Hey! I don't have issues with my self-image! It's perfectly content to be in the gutter.

SashaSue
Does grandiosity count as a self image problem?
Maddy
In fact I think that there are still boards on here where you can post and it /won't/ increase your post count? Or did we do away with that? I don't know. We had problems with people who would post just to increase post count as if it mattered.
SashaSue
I kind of think it's just the blogs that work that way. I don't pay much attention to post count though, so I could be totally wrong about that.
Velvet Elvis
In fact I think that there are still boards on here where you can post and it /won't/ increase your post count? Or did we do away with that? I don't know. We had problems with people who would post just to increase post count as if it mattered. Springer was the only one that was ever like that and we did away with it years ago.
grousemouse
hmm, well perhaps we could give music05 a -1 reputation point for suggesting the idea in the first place?

dancesintherain
I skipped this thread initially because I couldn't figure out what it would be (rather than opening it, which would have been the more logical response). I appreciate the non-rating aspect. I have to admit that the self-esteem/need for feedback or validation from others issue would be a hindrance and could lead toward me focusing on the feedback/rating, rather unhealthfully. admittably, that's rather messed up...but it's not all that strange to admit to a fucked up thought pattern on a mental illness board, I guess. ;-)

celestia
It's perfectly content to be in the gutter. Or as the great Oscar Wilde said, "we are all of us in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."
