I just started Geodon a few days ago... tonight I will be taking 80mg.

The first 2 nights, 40mg knocked me out (eventually) but I could *not* wake up the next morning... I got up around 1.30p. I did take it a little late... my normal bedtime, around 10p.

Problem is, it's been the weekend, and I have to get up at 6a tomorrow to get my son ready to catch the school bus.

It is currently 7.45p...

should I take the 80mg or just 40 and take the other 40 after my son is at school?

Or should I take a Nuvigil immediately upon waking?

Thanks for your input... whether I get it tonight or tomorrow ;)

Splitting the dose between AM and PM is ideal. But I couldn't handle the sedation of taking my morning dose. So I take my full 160mg in the evening. I don't have much trouble waking up, anymore. I kind of did in the beginning. So, my suggestion is to try taking your evening dose a little earlier before you go to bed. And try taking your other dose in the AM. You might find the sedation too much for the morning dose. Then again, you might get used to it. Some people do. And some people don't get sedated at all from Geodon. You just have to play around with the dosing and the schedule. Or then again, you should probably ignore everything I've said here and make sure whatever you do is OK by your pdoc.

Thanks, you guys!

I talked to my best friend a few minutes ago and she told me pretty much the same thing.

I decided to go with 40 now and 40 in the morning... because of my insomnia, I usually nap (when I can) when my son is in school.

I also have some Nuvigil, might it help with the drowsiness or will one cancel out the other?

I should talk to my psych tomorrow as he needs to do something about me getting my Vyvanse (to replace the Nuvigil), so I can ask him about the Geodon then.

I think the biggest issue is that I've been taking it so late... my bestf said it takes 2 - 3hrs to kick in, so taking it as early as 5p is do-able.

Thx again!

i took 40mg at 8p... it is now 2.50a and i'm wide awake. i guess geodon doesn't *put* me to sleep, it *keeps* me asleep.

so, i'm gonna stay up, give in to the night-owl part of myself i've subverted for years (it's my natural rhythm), and sleep while Jude's at school.

gonna talk to my psych about it.

maybe.

Geodon has been a lifesaver for my son. After five years with the same doctor and two hospital admissions due to mania we found a doc who knows what he is doing. Propranolol works for the side effects, especially the tardive dyskinesia (as does Benadryl). My son is slowly working toward having a life again. We do see highs and lows that are worrisome for mania at times but he is able to keep them in check. The doc also added Zoloft to help with the depression that came after the voice went away. Finding the right medicine, getting better is a long process.
