Heatherta7
Has anyone been prescribed Vyvanse for BP? My Abilify stopped working so my pdoc put me on Vyvanse along with my Lamictal to see if that worked. It is a stimulant so I was confused about having it. AirMarshall
Vyvnase for Abilify? Stimulant for an antipsychotic? That's not alternate med, that's completely changing the treatment course. Going from standing on the brakes, to tromping the accelerator to the floor. You would need to ask your pdoc what his reasoning is. regards, a.m.
SashaSue
If the Abilify was largely meant to be treating depression, and if you've tried a lot of AD's without good results, I can kind of see what your pdoc was thinking, but it still isn't exactly a first line choice. Heatherta7
It is for my depression side of BP. I thought the Abilify was working fine, but I did see a dip from in the beginning of treatment to now (8months). I was complaining of loss of memory and I told him I could not afford $500 a month on it since I do not have insurance so he moved me onto Vyvanse for "clarity". I have tried every AD out there, but it shoots me over to the hypomanic side, so that is not an option for me. I will ask for more information my next visit. I was curious if anyone else was taking it because I have not seen any signatures with this drug on it. If I could find someone on the same treatment I was going to ask about their experience on it. Thanks everyone.
AnneMarie
I haven't tried Vyvanse, but I do know that generic Adderall is cheaper. I like adderall. It gives me clarity, attention, and maybe a bit of an antidepressant effect. Maybe. It might be worth asking your doc about the lower cost alternatives. Aanga
I take 50mg Vyvanse, switched from 50mg Adderall XR, because the Adderall made my heart feel like it was fluttering and gave me anxiety. doc gave me Vyvanse to sort of jump-start me out of depressive episodes, but also to keep me awake due to the sedation of other meds I'm taking. And to help me focus, because I have the attention span of a gnat. I'm just off an anti-psychotic and am taking 2 AD's and he's suggesting I start lithium in mid-jan, so yea Vyvanse isn't uncommon in Bipolar people
kdbee
Hmm.. yeah, that's an odd switch. Heather, why don't you call your pdoc and ask for more information as to why he/she put you on it.
