remedy48
I'm starting on a new antidepressant called cipralex. The Celexa that I was on was causing urinary retention. Does anyone have any experiences with cipralex that they would like to share. What side effects did you get from it.
Artemisia
Celexa did nothing for me although sometimes I wonder if my dose was simply too low. Lexapro (that's escitalopram in the U.S.) worked like magic on my depression, but it made me want to sleep 12 hours a day. I was on it for over a year (almost two years?), though. I'm on generic Prozac now, and it seems to be working OK.
Maceo
Lexapro started working very quickly and really helped reduce the emotional pain/distress I was in. I did experience some reduced sex drive/delayed ejaculation from it. I think it also stopped working on me. I was taken off it when I was admitted to hospital after a suicide attempt. I'm doing okay on Zoloft now but my mother has just started on Lexapro (two weeks ago) and she isn't complaining. She seems a lot more mellow since she's been on it. Less emotional. I don't think she's had any persisting side-effects. One thing maybe worth mentioning is that Lexapro (escitalopram) is just the "new & improved" (aka: patent extending) version of Celexa (citalopram) so if you react a certain way to Celexa it's fairly likely you'll react similarly to Lexapro. remedy48
I'm going to ask my pdoc if I can switch to zoloft for I had great success on that. I forget why I came off it though.
remedy48
Well my pdoc wants me on cipralex still so I suppose I'll stick with it. But is it normal to expereince anxiety like higher than normal levels of anxiety at the start of treatment with an ssri?

tboo
I have had very few side effects from Lexapro. In fact, it is by far the best antidepressants that I've tried to date. I do experience some minor tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and slight insomnia at times. However, I have added a low dose of Remeron to help regulate my sleep. I would give it time as some side effects tend to subside within a few weeks. All side effects should be reported to your doctor/psychiatrist during your regular check-ups. Best of luck!
