I'm really shaky, really weak, really dizzy, can't hardly walk straight, have blurry vision, feel really fatigued.

I started lithium on November 13th and I started feeling this way on November 15th and have felt this way pretty much every day since then. I'm on 300mg in the morning and 300mg before bedtime. I'm on a REALLY low dose. I've noticed that when I get too hot or don't drink enough, it only gets worse. I don't want to get off of lithium because it's the only mood stabilizer that has ever worked for me and we've been searching for one for the past year and a half. I have an eating disorder and I know that sometimes when I don't eat enough, I feel these symptoms but since I've been on the lithium, they've only gotten worse. Is this part of the lithium or is it my eating disorder or is it something completely different? I'm going to get my lithium levels checked next week but I really don't think it could be toxic at such a low dosage.

Advice or anything from anyone?

At 600mg, it's unlikely that you are toxic, but you should get your level checked. Your symptoms are typical of insufficient fluids, so there is a fair chance that while you think you are taking in enough fluids, it's not enough for Lithium. That's easy to check. Drink more water or juice. Coffee, and tea to a lessor degree, is a diuretic. Those sort of cancel out the fluid of drinking them. Most pops have caffeine as well.

Off hand, arm chair, non-professional guess is that your food intake has at least as much to do with it. Increase your beverages. If that doesn't help, then it's probably food. IN ANY CASE, you should bring this up with your pdoc.

Hope you feel better soon.

With Lithium, it's really important to get adequate fluids and food to keep your levels right. I imagine that your prescriber knows your eating habits and thinks Lithium is safe to prescribe.

That said, I had those symptoms for at last a fortnight when I first started Lithium and my levels were fine. It does wear off.
