Anybody have success with one SNRI but not another?

Recommended Posts

As a last-ditch effort before MAOIs, my pdoc is switching me from Effexor to Cymbalta. Despite all sorts of augmentation methods, Effexor just does not work for me. Although my pdoc has never tried this with one of his patients before, he read a paper that said switching from one SNRI to another sometimes works.

Has anybody had luck with switching from Effexor/Pristiq to Cymbalta (or visa-versa)? I am not talking about switching because of bad side-effects. I mean has one worked for you, but not the other.

FWIW neither drug is a SNRI. Bother are multiple reuptake inhibitors (MRIS). They effect the reuptake of both serotonin and norepenephrine.

I had good luck with Cymbalta but couldn't afford to stay on it. I never tried effexor.

I've always called them and seen them referred to as SNRIs. The S standing for serotonin and the N standing for norepinephrine and the RI well you know the rest. I guess it could get confused for Selective Norepinephrine RI but like I said, I've always seen Effexor and Cymbalta referred to as SNRIs. Maybe it would be more accurate to say SSNRI?

I've never seen the use of MRI to refer to them. Until now.

Not that it's important or anything.

Effexor worked quite well for me and Cymbalta did not. They can be very different.

Yeah I guess that's right. My brain is going. I was getting them confused with the NRIs like Reboxitine and Strattera. Going Going gone.

Effexor worked great for me for a number of years. After the poop out and retry of Prozac I tried Cymbalta. It worked great on my neuropathic pain, but did diddly squat for my depression so I ended up on Lexapro and Wellbutrin--which really works quite well for the suicidal depressions.

I'm doing the same thing. Well, I tried Effexor, then prozac , NOW I'm on Cymbalta, so we'll see how it goes. Effexor, for me,was hell to start, Cymbalta has been easierto start, but I'm on a tiny dose anyway, and I haven't been on it long enough to notice a difference, I'm also using it to treat anxiety, so, yeah, nothing helpful from me, just saying, I'm trying the same thing right now.
