Eris
I am on Lamictal, Desyrel, Clonazepam, and Levoxyl and have just been put on an antibiotic called Metronidazole for 7 days. Took the first dose 4 hours ago and now am flushing and feeling a little manicky. I looked up everything I could and found no interactions known between the meds I am taking and the antibiotic. Anyone else out there taken this? You are not supposed to drink while on it, and I am not and have not had anything with any alcohol content at all today. Greenyflower
Ah, lovely Flagyl... Nasty stuff, but effective. Since you checked the drug interaction sites, it's probably side effects from the drug itself you are feeling. It made me kind of light headed and weak, but wasn't intolerable. And when the warnings say DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL, they really mean it. I was in the midst of taking a week of it when my sister got married. I had one tiny glass of champagne and spent the next several hours hugging the great white microphone.
pressmama
Depending on what you're taking it for, there are suppository forms of the medication. I've noticed that meds given in a different manner effect me differently sometimes. Just an idea...

Any of them can potentially trigger mania in the bipolar. That's one reason why I suggest medic alert bracelets or necklaces that indicate being bipolar. Not that ER doctors are all up to speed on antibiotics triggering manic reactions, but at least it reduces the chances of such things happening. If you are at all feeling manicy, I would suggest calling your pdoc immediately. Erika
