Guest ape stuff
I have an appt with my pdoc today. I expect that he is going to increase my Zoloft from 100mg to 150mg because I am going through hellish daily anxiety and worry after some foolish episodes in recent weeks. WholeNewHomeBody
to quiet the negative thoughts that plagued my mind no matter how hard I tried to take control and be more rational. Buspar? (buspirone) It's worth a shot.
cabal
Maybe a benzodiazepine ? If you want something like Zoloft to work against anxiety you'll need a relatively high dose, maybe 200 mg. And Zoloft has the potential to actually CAUSE anxiety, maybe a more neutral AD like Lexapro or Luvox, or sedating like Paxil would be better. Long term use of benzos is bad, but on the short run it can bring great relief. You could talk to your doctor and come to an agreement that you quit the alchohol, and use a benzodiazepine against the anxiety. Combining both is BAD. Make your doctor understand that if he does not prescribe a benzo you may use alchohol against anxiety (as many people do). But only say that if it's true. You need to be honest with your pdoc. kalessin
I'm with you. I recently added Buspar to my Zoloft. It's too early to tell if it will work, but it's worth a try, right? I've been on Zoloft since March 25th. For the first few months it seemed like my anxiety would never go away, but now that I look back on it, it's clear that I've been getting slowly better. It sucks because you don't know whether to give a medication longer to work or give up on it. Just wanted to let you know that in my case, patience is winning out. Good luck! jefisch
Well, this thread just freaked me out because I thought Zoloft was for social/general anxiety - and I just started it about a week ago for anxiety.
Guest buspar queen
I've been on Buspar for years now...adding and deleting other meds. I am taking 120 mgs of Buspar - and am often still overwhelmed by life! Anxiety, guilt and depression rule my life.
Greenyflower
All of the SSRIs can help with anxiety and social isolation problems, in addition to depression. Some of the SSRIs are a bit more stimulating than others, though. I tend to get very anxious with depression, but when the depression lifts, the anxiety goes with it. Guest buspar queen
I'm one of those folks that found this board because of the NY Times article, and I'm really thankful I did. This is the first place that I've found that talks about the realities of living with MI. Yes, my anxiety deepens as my depression deepens. kalessin
Hi Buspar Queen: I'm interested in the fact that you take 120 mg of Buspar. I'm up to 90 mg myself, and it's definitely helping. Are you happy with your current dose? Any downside to taking so much?
Guest buspar queen
Hi Buspar Queen: I'm interested in the fact that you take 120 mg of Buspar. Actually, I'm not happy at all that I have to take drugs to make my brain work like it did (sorta) before my head injury. BUT! To answer your question, I would rather be ON this large dose of buspar than live with me off of it. The downside is how careful I have to be when taking it. At night, I take 90mg and the buspar fuzzies are really bad. My ears feel like they are popping (whomp sound) for about 20 minuts afterwards, and I'm really out of sorts. So, I take it JUST before dropping off to sleep. Some things that help reduce the fuzzies? Take with FOOD! if you don't have anything to eat then take with a full glass of water. And finally, taking a xanax with the buspar helps reduce the fuzzies.
kalessin
Thanks. I don't have any "fuzzies." But I take it six times a day, 15 mg at a time, every three to four hours. That seems to help too.
