Who The Hell Am I? Is Right.

Recommended Posts

I am trying to figure out just how sick I am and what my diagnosis is by listing my meds and the doses. This site looks like it might just be for me. It appears that there are all kinds of people here with varying degrees of mental illness. Maybe you can help me figure out 'who the hell' I am by giving me a diagnosis albeit amateur. Thank you in advance.

Bupropion 200mg, 1 tab. twice daily.

Doxepin 50mg, 2 capsules @ bedtime

Geodon 80mg, 1 capsule twice daily

Levothyroxine, 1 tab. once daily

Lithium 450mg, 1 tab. once daily

BTW Did I mention that my family sucks and don't even want to know me except when they need something (i.e., money)? I spend all holidays alone and they don't even call to say happy whatever the holiday is, and never send a card for anything. I could go on and on, and maybe I will little by little, but I am tired right now and I'm going to bed. I'll check back tomorrow afternoon to see is any of you have replied. Thanks.

Today my doctor added Synthroid 0.?, once daily (I can't read his writing, but will fill it tomorrow and read the pharmacy type on the dose)

I first wanted to echo the welcome to CB. Asfar as learning who you are via diagnosis---the caution is always that you who are is not synonymous with what particular illness you have. A knowledge of an illness can help figure out treatment, therapy goals, etc...but it's just one facet of who you are. What are your interests? significant relationships? etc. all those things can also help.

On the mental health side, though...Lithium falls into the mood stabilizer category (so checking that posting for help might be a good idea). It's frequently used for bipolar, but is starting to get used for depression for some people. Geodon is an atypical antipsychotic--used for psychotic symptoms or, very occasionally, to handle extreme anxiety symptoms. I'm not familiar w/ Buproprion--but that might be wellbutrin, which is an antidepressant.

So, as an amateur, it looks like you have something in mood disorder land, so the bipolar or depression stuff might be a place to think about. The best option though is talking to the prescribing doctor--he/she can help identify why the particular meds and what sort of treatment he thinks is helpful. All sorts of family issues exist concurrently and can frequently be helped through therapy.

Anyway, this is getting a little long, so I'll cut it at that. I hope you can follow up on some of the specific questions when you're comfortable.
