scream_phoenix
i've been trying to get off seroquel for a couple weeks now, but it hasn't been going well. trazodone kept me up so i went back to seroquel. but i'm still getting like five hours of dreams each night, and waking up in the middle of the night. so i asked my doctor for ambien, but i took that last night and it didn't put me to sleep. i ended up taking half a seroquel (25 mg) to fall asleep, but i'm thinking this isn't much better of a combination. i was thinking of trying unisom because it has antihistamine properties like seroquel, and i think that going without seroquel, i might still need that antihistamine induced drowsiness to fall asleep for awhile. does anybody have any experience to suggest this is a good or bad idea? i have other natural sleep aids i'm considering of trying but i need to get to sleep first, and i want the most direct route possible. Silver
You could talk to your psychiatrist about using a very, very low dose of doxepin instead - 10mg -and see if that works. About as close as you'll get. Or Benadryl, 25-50 mg - not more.
sebrina881
This is going to sound strange, but... My pdoc had me on 900mg of seroquel for sleep. I had been taking it so long that he kept having to increase the dosage. I finally decided I didn't want to take it anymore because of the weight gain. I decided to start taking Melatonin. And it works for me! Check it out and see what you think!
Anna
I will add that melatonin is a highly effective sleep aid for some. It works really well for me.... And no side effects. Benadryl might help, slightly. It could be worth a try. Anna
lunar47
I am finally off my seroquel. And it's made a huge difference in my sleep. So now instead of sleeping for 14 hours straight I stay up till 4:30 in the morning. I'm supposed to be taking an ambien/klonopin cocktail before bed. It's still not helping my new found insomnia. But at least I'm not gaining weight like crazy.
scream_phoenix
i went back on the seroquel. i tried risperdal for a couple weeks, then realized i was still getting the same long ass dreams all night, but without the pleasant sleep inducing effects of seroquel. its not really any better back on the seroquel, i've still got to figure something out to get quality sleep.
