This is my 5th day on it (25 mg) and I noticed it makes me spaced out and tired all day, then up all night with insomnia.  Is it ok to take at night?  Also- I can't seem to eat anymore on it and am losing weight.  Is this a side effect that any of you experienced.  if so,  did you notice it going away?  Thanks  ;)

Uhh...you can take it when it works best for you. There are no rules as to when you take it. No, the Angry Pharmaceutical Gods won't smite you or anything. Go ahead and try it at night.

I used to take it at night. When I started. Yep. No good reason. Prescribing doc didn't care.

I take it twice a day now. My old doctor didn't give a shit that I take it twice a day. My new doctors don't give a shit that I take it twice a day. The *bubbles the chimp* neurologist didn't give a shit that I take it twice a day, if it gives you a clue.

*shrug*

I think some people have gotten the anorexia effect around here. I know it stopped my binge-eating behavior. That has more to do with not going *completely, utterly, majorly* nutzoid than appetite suppression, though.

Some people get sleepy, some get wired. I'm a wired type.  Switched to mornings and my sleep improved immediately and I go to bed at a regular time.

Yeah it can upset your stomach as well as lots of other side effects, see www.crazymeds.us most of them get better once you are on a stable dose.

Hi there

I was taking it at night when I started and it was definitely keeping me up. I switched to mornings and it got way better. Then I titrated up to 300mg and it's keeping me up again - maybe this will get better with time. I'm considering splitting. As the others said, whatever works for you.

To the weight question, I lost 10.5 lbs. in 30 days when I started. Basically all the lithium weight I had gained over 12 months. Seems to have levelled off now. I'm not complaining, but it might be different for you.

I take one dose in the morning and another at night.. currently doing 75/75 (150mg/day), working my way up to 200mg/day.  I'm titrating VERY slowly b/c I have noticed that when I up a dose my moods start cycling rapidly again and take a few days to settle down.  I actually suspect my optimal dose is 100mg, but I'm trying to trust the pdoc for now.

Good luck.. hope you figure it out.  Unfortunately we're all different - wish there was a defnitive answer for you!

PS oh, I happened to ask my doc y'day about timing of doses (I'm also on trileptal, thorazine and valium), and she said that it wasn't a huge issue for lamictal.  I guess that means take it at a time that works for you.  I specifically wanted to know if I need to take it (eg) at 7am and 10pm, but she said as long as I wasn't heading towards missing a dose (eg taking it at 7am at one day and 12 noon the next), it didn't particularly matter.

Thank you for your replies.  I realize that most doctors don't care either way, they have way too many patients to spend too much time on one person.  I just have a lot of anxiety and any change throws me off big time.
