Swithching from xanax to valium

Recommended Posts

I have been taking xanax for about 4 yrs. .  Switching to valium because of muscle spasms due to thyroid problems.

Any thoughts , experinces,  withdrawel or odd feelings during the swithch?  I was taking up to 3 mgs. of zanax a day.  Iwas prescribed 5 mgs.  of vlaium 3x per day.  Please help, Doxie

sounds like a good estimate to start with, and you'll know soon if you need to adjust it.

i went from xanax to klonopin to valium and am happiest with v. i recall a couple days slightly awkward transition but since then i've appreciated the smooth coverage.

good luck and keep us posted.

According to one equivalency chart, 3 mg of Xanax is equal to 60 mg of valium. That's quite different from the 15 mg of valium a day your doctor prescribed.

There are many equivalency charts, and they don't all say the same thing. But the one I found on benzo.org.uk seems reliable.

You can try taking what your doctor prescribed, or call him/her and point out that according to the equivalancy charts 15 mg of valium is rather low. It's your life. Keep in mind that Xanax is also in a "special" way different, that makes the withdrawal process harder. I've heard people say that you can get off Xanax only by gradually lowering the dose of Xanax, and that replacing Xanax with another benzo can be tricky.

Cabal,

that makes sense, I couldn"t sleep at all last night, so I ended up taking xanax at 3am. I 'm kind of out of it,  The valium feels pleasant but not nearly as strong as the doses of xanax iwas taking.  Chat later , Doxie
