Klonopin taper

Recommended Posts

My doctor is very "helpful" with giving me Klonopin and Xanax, and I have really bad social anxiety. But as time has gone on (about 2 years), I'm taking more and more Klonopin mostly, and it feels like it's not doing anything. I took 1mg of Xanax yesterday and didn't feel a thing =\

So, I'm thinking that hopefully if I taper down off this stuff, I can take a break and maybe take 1 klonopin a day, or every other day, or really PRN without "as needed" being lots of times per day.

I take about 1.5mg Klonopin a day, sometimes more if I need it. I really want to be on 0.5mg per day and for that actually to be helpful.

Do you guys think it's worth tapering off this? And, given that I've taken it for so long, is that even feasible? I feel like I'm so dependent on it at this point...

Well, so much for that. I tried to taper down my Celexa while I was tapering down my Klonopin, and I started freaking out and on the verge of tears. Not only am I trying to stabilize myself by going back on my regular dose of Celexa, but I had my doctor call in Xanax, and he said to (conservatively) use as much as I needed, and probably I will wind up using more to get through this tailspin.

I really am not trying to abuse these drugs, I'm really in a state of emergency right now. But, my pdoc just urges me to try and use other means to calm my anxiety before piling up the drugs. And my tdoc has been helpful too with my anxiety.

But I feel a little defeated by my FAIL of my klonopin taper this time. Next time I won't try to taper Celexa at the same time... bad idea.

Thanks dianthus for the encouragement. Christmas is probably also bad timing for withdrawal from anxiety meds. I just made a mistake is all. The important thing is, I'm stabilizing myself again before making any other adjustments, and I called my doctor today to update him and get his advice, direction, and care.
